Top 5 of 25 : Geared Free

September 8, 2009 by Ryan Ray

Almost done with the series Top 5 of 25 apps in the app store. For this round I’m only focusing on free apps, and perhaps paid ones in the future. This app came in at #4 last week when I started the series, and at present time is sitting at #5. It’s the free version of the game and only offers a few levels compared to it’s bigger, and paid full version. Again like some other games I’ve reviewed this one requires some brain activity. It’s a puzzle game similar to this app, but this one involves gears instead of a ragdoll.

The game goes by the title Geared, this one in particular is Geared Free. As you can see below you must piece the gears together in some order for the bottom gear to connect to the last blue gear. The thing about the game is that there is no snap-grid, as the developer calls it. Meaning that there is no right or wrong place to place the gears. They can be placed in any order as long as in their final positions they turn the blue gear.

Geared Free Instructions

As you can see from the plainly labeled screen shot above these are the instructions for the game. Nothing really complex here. Drag a gear from the 5 boxes on the left bottom of your screen. Then arrange them somehow to connect the spinning gear to the blue gear. Like mentioned earlier there are endless ways to piece them together. So if you get stuck, like I am on level 4, keep thinking and trying different solutions. And if you beat level 4 tell me how!

Geared Free Settings

This is the menu screen. You can choose from the 5 levels that come with the free version, you can change the sound effects and other things under settings. Then see statistics or the boring credits! Thrilling.

Geared Free Gear Noob

If you must know, I am a total gear noob. As so wonderfully told to me by the game itself. I take too long to complete simple levels and I’m stuck on level 4. I guess then I deserve it. Hopefully your scores improve way beyond mine.

Geared Free Level Completed

Just to prove to you I can beat a level check out this screen shot. This is the first level, and as you can see I did accomplish transferring the power from the yellow wheel to the blue wheel. Simple as it is, it helps to give you a feel for how the game play is.  Once finishing the level you can either replay it and try to get a better time now that you know how it works, or move on to the next level.

Like I said, in the free version you only get 5 levels. Hardly enough for most people to really get addicted to the game, so let us try some more levels for free! At least in my opinion 5 isn’t enough for me to want to purchase the full version. Plus I’m still stuck on level 4, this game is hard for me. At least that level is, haha.

Perhaps I’m just a gear noob, if you’ve played this game let me know what you think of it. If not go to the app store and check it out, it’s free. THEN let me know how good at it you are. Thank you for reading!
