Star Trek Clock Perfect For Trekkies

I’ve got a fun, and nerdy little app to talk about today. Like the title says it is perfect for you Trekkies, and I say you Trekkies because I am not included in that category. I don’t mean this in a bad way at all, don’t get take me wrong. I mean to say that I have no idea about the Star Trek community, the most I can say is that I’ve seen the newest Star Trek. It was a great movie, like most critics said, for most of the general public. There wasn’t a lot of Star Trek lingo and talk that left out people like me.

So what does this all have to do with the iPhone. Well an app company that goes by the name Chilli X has developed an iPhone app that is, at its basics, a clock. The interface for this clock app is actually themed as part of Star Trek. Right now there is only one skin for the app, but the developer noted that in the next update new skins will be coming. We’ll talk about the new features coming in a second though. The app is called StarTime, and will set you back a big $.99. You know, as a sidenote, $.99 always seems cheap but once you start racking up 100 $.99 apps it’s expensive!

Above you’ll find the only screen, besides the settings, to the Star Trek Clock. Now like I said, I am no Trekkie, so I don’t get that this interface is from the LCars System. Someone tell me does that have anything to do with Star Trek? I do have one complaint, that is that the interface is a little hard to read. You can tell that from the picture. At least the time is big and placed front and center. That helps since the app is a clock in the first place. The app makes all these Star Trek sounds on the hour and when you tap the screen. You can set the app to how you like with the next screen shot.

Here are all of your settings for the app. As you can see most of your customization is for the sounds, then you can turn off the flashing seconds if you so desire. Also you can change the brightness if the app is too bright. Pretty simple thus far, but it doesn’t really need more for a clock. Now there are features that the developer has announced that are coming in the next update. They are as follows. A landscape mode, more sounds,more skins like mentioned earlier, and an alarm ability. The app is slowly growing and growing.

Is a Star Trek Clock app really worth the money? Well if you love Star Trek then heck ya, if you are a semi fan then maybe think about it a little longer. Although I would say buy it now at a cheap price and get free updates for the life of the app. Be sure to check out the app for yourself and let me know your own opinion.
