Spread The Cheer With Your iPhone

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

As a disclaimer, I must first warn you that this app review is all about Christmas. If you absolutely despise this holiday then I would recommend not reading this. Otherwise this is going to be the best Christmas app you’ve ever seen, made specially for your iPhone! Now that we have cleared that up and got the scrooges to leave, can I say that I really enjoy Christmas? I’m not going to start freaking out and type in ALL CAPS… I LOVE CHRISTMAS!!!! OMG SANTA!!! No, that’s not my style. I like Christmas just in a more subdued fashion. So I’ll spare you of all that nonsense.

This year I think I’m guilty of celebrating Christmas a little too early. Before Thanksgiving had even arrived I had made my playlist of all my Christmas music. I proudly played it as well as hanging lights in our room atleast a good two weeks before Thanksgiving. Slightly premature but that’s ok by me. Starbucks has their holiday drinks out and retailers are decorating their shops and aisles. People are even starting to be nice to each other. Don’t blame me if it all makes you sick.

Well as I sit here typing this wishing I had a caramel apple spice drink, I’ve got the perfect iPhone Christmas app to let you know about. This app really has it all under one roof. The app is called MyChristmas, and for everything this app will do for you this Christmas it still comes in at a cheap $1.99.  The app really has just a lot of smaller apps inside the main one. So now we’ll break each of those apps down.

Games

Inside the games section are game we are all familiar with, just simply spiced with a little Christmas flavor. It has two games one called Snow Solitaire, and one called Christmas Match. Snow Solitaire is a version of Klondike Solitaire while Christmas Match is a match two pieces from a grid type setup.

Entertainment

My favorite part in the entertainment section was the Bells. There are seven sleigh bells you can tap and play your own Christmas song. Snow scene is simply that, a scene with snow! There is even a candle app that can help set that Christmas mood. The candle is even zoomable to make it bigger or smaller. To round off the entertainment there is a digital sprig of mistletoe. You know what mistletoe is for right? To try and get a kiss from that certain someone you’ve been eyeing!

Countdown

Well, how much explanation do you need to now what the countdown does? Actually this countdown has two different ways to count. One is a normal countdown, and the other is how many more “sleeps” you will have before Christmas. Definitely could come in handy if you are a parent and your kids are asking you, “How many more nights to Christmas, Mommy?!”

eBook

In the eBook is the old but classic “A Christmas Carol.” The great Dickens story can be read and bookmarked with a digital bookmark to keep your place. Worthy of checking out if only for the bookmark!

Carols/Music

This is one of the sections I’ll be using the most as I do my caroling. It’s simply a screen with links to Wikipedia and the words to many many popular carols. Now if it could only provide music to it as well, how awesome would that be? Speaking of music, the music section of the app contains 6 songs that you can play to lighten the mood. They are as follows;

“Deck The Halls, Jingle Bells”, “Oh, Little Town of Bethelehem”, “Oh, Christmas Tree”, “Silent Night”, and “We Wish You A Merry Christmas.”

New Year

Finally the last part of the mini apps, New Year. This is another countdown from Christmas to the New Year! It also has the words to Auld Lang Syne, you know for when you are a little too sloshed to remember the words…To finish it off there is a fireworks display to watch on your iPhone. Even if you are alone on News Year you can still have fireworks. Isn’t that great!?

I hate to break it to some of you, but Christmas is here. You can’t get around it. There simply isn’t a way, unless you know how to time travel… If you can do that come get me. I’ve got a few mistakes to correct, haha. With this app and your iPhone/iPod touch you can help get the whole world ready for the Holiday season. Wether that’s caroling to them, showing them the countdown, or even trying to kiss them under your digital mistletoe, (you romantic nerd) they will sure to enjoy Christmas. Even if they just enjoy it for that one second. Do you know of more ways to use your iPhone to celebrate Christmas? If so let me know, thanks for readin!

Thank you for the nice post Ryan.

We would love to add even more into MyChristmas, although we think it’s superb value and fun as is. It is fair to say that Christmas is rapidly approaching now and it takes a fair amount of time to get things through the Apple approval phase for iPhone apps – much to everyone’s annoyance, so we are unlikely to be able to get all the updates through in time for this year that we wanted to do. But, be aware, that MyChristmas will begin counting down to Christmas 2009 from Dec 26th 2008 onwards – oh yes, it’s for this Christmas and every Christmas, and it will be updated.

There is an update (v1.1) on it’s way now with the promised Old Lang Syne New Year music, which we are proud to have obtained the rights for – it’s very traditional and folk-like. That should be on the App Store within a few days.

And, for anyone wanting to tryout the bells, Christmas Bells should be available as a free download from the App Store in the next few days – as an introduction to the joys of MyChristmas. Enjoy.

    Cheers, and Merry Christmas,
From us all at Talee Talee

Thanks for the comment Talee Talee,

I definitely understand the slow and tedious process of getting an update pushed through Apple. I’m glad MyChristmas will continue though. Thanks for coming by and keeping us updated on the app, definitely very cool.

Again thanks for coming by. Merry Christmas to you as well.

Hi Ryan, it took some time due to other commitments but version 2.0 of MyChristmas has now been accepted into the App store.

    We hope you enjoy it.

    Thanks and Merry Christmas 2009!
