My Top 3 Rumors For The iPhone At WWDC

As all of us know, us crazy Mac faithful…err maybe I should just go with iPhone faithful as we all don’t have Macs, that the World Wide Developers Conference is upon us. The World Wide Developers Conference, otherwise known as WWDC, will be taking place in 4 short days. It has in the past been a place for all of the super nerdy but super inteligent Mac developers to come and learn about the new version of the OS, and new ways to develop great apps. In the recent past, as in the last two years it has been the launching pad for the iPhone and it’s newer brother the iPhone 3G. Since then WWDC has seemed to be iPhone first, Mac OS X second. While there is a great buzz and big expectations as to what’s going to happen with Snow Leopard, because there are no new features in Snow Leopard just simple under the hood improvements which I am very excited for personally. Everyone is really focused on the next generation of the iPhone. Again count me in as I’m very excited for it as well.
With that said there are tons of rumors flying around, and if you aren’t on the web or Twitter 24/7 you may miss out on some of them. Some of the rumors probably aren’t rumors as they will actually come true, and some of these rumors are long shots but not entirely impossible. If you want to see a great visualization of ALL of the rumors then check this out HERE. After you have seen that come back here and let’s talk about my top 3 rumors for the iPhone at WWDC.
#1 – Video Recording, Editing, & Sending.
This rumor has actual concrete evidence that at least video recording is built into the iPhone’s OS. There was a screenshot leaked of a screenshot depicting the ability to record video. But some other rumors go a long with it that I’d love to see. Especially editing and the ability to send it to someone. If not sending it to someone I hope we can upload it to YouTube, Vimeo, etc…Given Apple & Google’s relationship I hope to see YouTube at least. The editing I imagine might be tricky but using multi-touch there might be a simple solution. I can’t imagine any in depth video editing like you would do in Final Cut.
#2 – Improved Camera With Autofocus
Again to go along with recording video you have to have a better camera. There is once again some concrete evidence that the iPhone is getting a better camera, and it has an autofocus ability. An autofocus that you just touch the screen where you want it to focus. The camera also performs better in low light and is more responsive and quicker. Something I will definitely be looking forward to. The rumor is it will at least be 3.2 megapixels. A nice jump from the 2.0 one right now.
#3 – Matte Rubber Backing
I’ll risk sounding a little lame with wanting this one to come true, but I do. The plastic on my iPhone was very scratch prone, and has even begun to crack. It’s also a little to slippery at times, it slides out of my pockets, backpack, etc… I got a case that is a mix of plastic and rubber and it works great, and if they can make the actual back of the iPhone out of something similar I will be in love. You can have all of the functionality that you want software wise, but I’d like the iPhone to feel great and safe in my hands. With a matte rubber backing I think it will not only look better but last longer and be more durable.
So there you have it. I’m a media freak so my rumors mostly revolved around the camera and it’s ability, but as you can see from that chart there are a lot of rumors and maybe some surprises in store for us come June 8th. Thanks for the comment, it is one of the most backed up rumors out of all of them. It’s definitely going to change slightly cosmetically and I do hope this rumor comes true!
