The World’s Most Expensive iPhone App

August 9, 2008 by Ryan Ray

Here is a shocker for you, an iPhone app that cost $999! Yes you’ve heard right, this application cost a real $999! Ever since this app was released the internetz are bubbling with the news and hatred of the thing. This is officially the worlds most expensive iPhone app. Usually iPhone apps are around $9.99 and less. I know there are few others that go slightly above, but NONE that about breach $1,000. If you haven’t heard anything about this then let me fill you in on the big news on this app. This app is called “I Am Rich.”

It was “developed” by Armin Heinrich. To me It’s one of those things that people buy just to say I have it. Just for example it’s very much like the people who buy bottles of Cristal, or the coffee Kopi Luwac even if it does taste like cat scat. It somehow validates people when they know they bought the most expensive coffee, EVER. The whole idea behind the app is to showoff that you bought a $999 app. The application “I Am Rich” does absolutely nothing besides shine this ugly, red diamond looking light. Oh I almost forgot it has a hidden mantra for you to start chanting. How about something like, “I can’t believe I bought this, must cancel all of my credit cards….I can’t believe I bought this, must cancel all of my credit cards….I can’t believe I bought this, must cancel all of my credit cards….”

The only people who will know you spent $999 on this app will be the people that will hate you for being such a pompous, and out right douche-bag. Just imagine this scenario, someone’s spent $999 dollars on this app and they obviously want people to know, so how are they going to do it? They are then going to go out into public and turn this app on. Shining it around at the local restaurant or bar just dying for someone to notice. In reality nobody is going to notice or care. Maybe you should try chanting that mantra again…”I can’t believe I bought this, must cancel all of my credit cards….I can’t believe I bought this, must cancel all of my credit cards….“ It’s even worse if you live around an area like mine, tons of technological challenged people who don’t even know what 3G is let alone an iPhone. All of that money for nothing!

So what is it that brings people to snatch out their credit cards and let the app store charge your $999 for one, single, useless, completely pointless application? Does anyone have the answer out there? I’m quite lost on how to explain this one. It even appears that someone has accidentally purchased this app. They’ve been throwing a fit about it, and are trying to get their money back. Just look at the review they left earlier. Thankfully this application has been pulled from the app store. This might be one of those times I’m thankful that Apple can just pull apps at will. Of course the developer has received no reply from Apple, and it’s probably true that his app has done no wrong. It’s just that he shouldn’t charge $999 for this kind of stupidity. Sorry Armin, but develop a real app for the iPhone. Now it’s your turn to chime in, what do you think about this app? Should it be pulled even if it’s not breaking any rules? Let me know people!
