Keep Your Life In Order With Todo Lite
September 14, 2009 by Ryan Ray
One of my favorite apps as of late, is also really helping me survive and make it through this semester of school. Of course you can take this and apply it to life, work, whatever it is you need to keep track of. The app is called Todo. I’m not sure if it’s pronounced To Do, or more like todo the dog from Wizard of Oz. The point is though that you can easily and quickly create a wonderful to do list that syncs up with your Mac and iCal. Read on to find out more
I’m reviewing the free version, Todo Lite, there exists a paid version for $9.99 that if you fork over the money will get you unlimited entries otherwise they are pretty much the same app. I may be upgrading to the full version if I find myself running into any limitations as I really like this app. At least it’s the best to do that syncs back with my Mac and iCal. I do use my MobileMe account a lot. I just haven’t found it to be the best at a daily to do list, although it is wonderful. This is my best solution I’ve got so far. Please do let me know if have a better one, always up for suggestions and am not offended if you have a better way.
Once you’ve downloaded the free app be sure to get their desktop syncing software, it’s free and available on their WEBSITE. Once you are setup we can get into creating a list for groceries, or an extensive project list for work. Below is a screen shot of my current list. Since I’m rocking the free version right now I don’t have a very long list of to do’s, mainly just the projects I’m currently working on. I haven’t updated it since over the weekend so they all say overdue, but don’t worry they really aren’t. Hah.
Here is how you add a task to remind yourself of. Refer back to the top screen shot. In the top right corner you can see three buttons. The right two work to easily add tasks. The one with the lightning bolt is a quick add button for something small like a grocery list, the other is a full fledged project or task, etc…
Remember to name the project or task. You can pick from the three options below, either a normal to do, a project, or a checklist. There are also some other cool little options like call someone, email, etc… Hopefully more things like this get added in future versions. I need some that are like open Photoshop, draw in Illustrator, film on location etc…
The first screen shot is the final step in adding a task. Once you’ve got here make sure to assign a due date and time if applicable. Also priority and the right list is pretty important. Don’t get school mixed up with work. In the second screen shot is my list of calendars. These straight up synced from my iCal into Todo, my favorite part. Keeping my iPhone and laptop synced up.
So all in all, Todo is very much worth the free download. I haven’t got to the point yet where I can say $9.99 is worth it. I’m sure it probably will be. I’ll be sure to let you know when I decide. If you are looking for a great To Do app, GET THIS ONE. If you know of a better one that syncs, leave a comment and let us all know. As always thanks for reading and enjoy the day.
