It’s Here Facebook 3.0 On The iPhone

August 28, 2009 by Ryan Ray

It’s here, it is FINALLY here. All of the internet has been dying for the update to the Facebook app, and for good reason too. The original Facebook app wasn’t living up to it’s potential. Given that Facebook had changed a lot since they had updated the iPhone app it was time. I believe one of the developers of the app had leaked a little bit about the app. Sent out some screenshots, gave some hints. That got everyone excited, and waiting for Apple to approve the app. Honestly I would say the hype was over hyped, but I definitely believe the updated app is an excellent update.

Why was everyone excited about the app? Well my personal favorite reason is the home screen. The new home screen is similar to the iPhone’s home screen. Just check out the screen shots of my own below.

It only makes sense that since Facebook has apps, and a ton of them at that, their home screen is similar to the iPhone home screen. As you can see you have your news feed, your own profile, friends, inbox, the chat (which is supposed to be improved), requests, etc… I really enjoy the new home page of the app. It’s quick and intuitive, and works well to get around Facebook quickly. Here is what the rest of the app looks like…

Facebook 3.0 Application Screens

This is your app screen. In the left top corner you can tap that and get back to your app icons. To see what app you are in just read the top right side of the screen. You can switch apps within apps by tapping that as well. At all times in any Facebook app you can take a picture or update your status. You always have to be able to update your status otherwise there’d be no competition to Twitter right?

News Feed

This is your news feed app, very similar to Facebook’s current feed. It’s really nice to finally have a lot of similarities between the actual website and the iPhone app. Although I don’t care about Farm Town at all. Facebook’s endless apps are just out of control! :)

Facebook 3.0 Home Screen

This is my favorite part of the app. This is a second home screen, and guess how you get to it? Just how you navigate your iPhone’s home screens. As you can tell there is a plus button in the top left. This easily let’s you add your own shortcuts on the home pages. I added the pages I manage to have quicker access to them, but you can add many things like friends profiles, fan pages you are part of, groups, etc…Definitely an excellent feature.

All in all I am really loving the new Facebook app. It is a big change from the previous version, but if you simply approach it as you approach your iPhone’s home screen you won’t be confused at all. The app is pretty bug free, very fast, and I give this a big two thumbs up. Hurry and update your Facebook app and enjoy. Also enjoy the video I made for you below. Leave me some comment love.
