Yes, you have read correct. The title of this post is about helping you filthy speed demons escape from the cops you loath and hate. In reality cops are there for our good, they serve and protect, and lay their lives on the line to insure our cities are peaceful, safe places to live. At the same time they love to catch people speeding. They pull some dirty tricks on us just for the satisfaction of giving us a nice new ticket. Even just to reach their quota each month they’ll get you for going one over!! I guess those speed limit signs are there for our own good, but when those cops set speed traps up against us our iPhone can come to the rescue.

Let me introduce you to a free app that’s called Trapster. Trapster is a great app that will definitely come in handy for many of us. I know not all of us are speed demons, but occasionally you do a little speeding yourself. Trapster will alert you by first using the GPS in your iPhone to locate you then loading information from it’s servers will tell you where stop light cameras are, where there are police setup in a speed trap, and where they often hide as well. How does it do this you might ask? Well first you must sign up for an account, which you can do through the iPhone app itself or online at Trapster.com, it’s free and definitely worth it for this app. After you are signed up simply put in your activation code that is both sent to you in a text and by email, and off we go. It will swiftly locate you and load all the data for the traps that you need. Here are some screen shots I took to show you what the app looks like…

As you can see in the first shot this is the main screen. The red is the GPS still locating me. If you tap once on the screen the overlay menu will pop up over Google maps. From there you can put speed traps, red light cameras, and places the cops often hide. It’s quite simple and I tested putting one on the map even though there was no cop there. Don’t worry I took it off, but it really is a wonderful and easy app to use. Simple enough to do it while you’re driving even!

Once you’re located in Trapster and all the warnings are loaded you can head out feeling a little safer about your driving. Since it tracks you with GPS, Trapster will give you an audible warning and vibrate once you come within a set distance of an alert. By default it’s set at an half mile, but you can set it at any distance you’d like. I believe mine’s at 1 mile which may be too far away.

In closing you may wonder if there are any legal/moral dilemmas to deal with. According to Trapster and their lawyers this app is %100 legal, and if anything changes I’ll update this. They say many police officers love the app and say it will only help to get more people to slow down, and that’s always a good thing. The app itself is great to have and you can’t beat the price. I mean for the cost of nothing it may help you save money on getting anymore speeding tickets! I highly recommend downloading this app right away. Once you have get back to me and let me know by leaving a comment here what you think of this app. Thanks!
