What The iPhone Needs; Bluetooth Transfers
January 26, 2009 by Ryan Ray
Once again I’m here griping about something the iPhone should have had since day one. Apple really is taking their sweet time giving us some basic stuff the iPhone needs. Perhaps they are legally binded to not be able to do certain things on the iPhone. I know something like allowing free ringtones would go against their ringtone selling business. I mean why allow us to have something that should be free when you can make us pay for them, JERKS! This may be the same reasoning behind a lot of things Apple isn’t giving us for free.
Think about this situation real quickly. Supposedly Apple is on a product cycle march, and in June the iPhone is up for a renewal. This could be that dumb iPhone Nano, or this could be the greatest iPhone to be released yet to date. It will have copy & paste, wireless syncing, wireless charging, bluetooth file transferring, a mail app that rotates to landscape, etc… All of our gripes and wants will be released in the form of a new iPhone. The iPhone 3.0, this could essentially be a free software update away but Apple sure is dragging us around as we wait for things like MMS, or a better camera with a flash. They could just throw out a new iPhone and charge us to upgrade from our brand new iPhone 3G’s that we already upgraded from the first time. In essence to get the features they’ve left out until now, we have to buy another new iPhone. I mean this is just a conspiracy theory, but a business’ main goal is to increase it’s bottom line. I don’t think Apple would do this to us, but with Steve Jobs leaving who knows what will happen! ![]()
Let’s get on with today’s rant, shall we? When I say Bluetooth transfers on the iPhone, I don’t mean connecting to a headset and being able to look semi idiotic when it looks like I’m talking to myself. I mean being able to connect our iPhones to other iPhones, to other phones, or even to our’s and other’s computers. Once they are connected they should be allowed to sync, even though it would be better over Wifi, and most importantly we should be able to transfer files over bluetooth.
One thing that could make it very convenient would be to transfer a contact or your whole address book over bluetooth. If I were at a meeting and needed to get someone’s number from a friend they could just beam it to me. What if I had a ringtone that I made, so it’s completely free to give away, and a friend wanted it for their phone. Why can’t I just send over bluetooth to them as well? This is even relevant for getting pictures off of our iPhones, we can’t just connect to our Macs and transfer the pictures off. We’ve got to plug it in and open iPhoto to get our pictures.
All of these can apply to Wifi transfers too, c’mon Apple throw us a bone here and give us the features we deserve. We’ve made you rich from the iPhone, not to mention our Macs and iPods. I think you can give us some basic features for free? I mean we can jailbreak our phones and get these features… Comments or opinion, leave me a comment and we’ll talk about our iPhones. Thanks for reading!
