The New iPhone Killer, Yeah Right!
September 5, 2008 by Ryan Ray
This is my rant for all of you iPhone imitators, wannabe’s and have beens. I’ve seen enough of your sleek black casing, and craptastic touch screens to know what you’re up to. You try and get the world to look at you, but we’re no fools. Today there’s a new kiddy on the block once again that sent me over the edge. A new device in the world of cellular devices. And guess what this phone is trying to measure up to? Yes, that’s absolutely right. This new phone wants to be an iPhone. I mean just look around for a moment and you’ll realize that if you want to be anybody in this cellphone industry you gotta take the top dog down. Obviously the iPhone is the top dog, but how do you take it down. Personally I think to make the iPhone Killer you’ve got to create the iPhone experience and more. But once you’ve got that you have to do it in a way the iPhone never has done. Here is what I think.
The cell world has had iPhone envy for a long time. Don’t you agree? It’s clear after seeing all the imitations come out lately. And really we can’t blame them. Everyone wants an iPhone but can either not afford the $200 dollars or more for the phone, nor can they afford the monthly fees. Or they either just aren’t on AT&T. The other cellphone makers have tried to capitalize on this and give everyone an “iPhone.” Some have come right out and called their phone the iPhone killer, some aren’t so public or ambitious with theirs but we all know what your thinking. So what is the point of trying to be something you are not? The iPhone 3G is incredibly cheap these days, and offers much more in terms of usability and function than many other phones do. Still we see the imitators coming out. They do say the sincerest form of flattery is imitation, so take a bow Apple for creating such a sleek device.

I’ve had so many people come up to me and ask me about my iPhone sometimes. It’s like they’ve never seen one in real life. Some people who are not just able to get the iPhone 3G have told me I was right all along. They should have got an iPhone a long time ago. They can’t believe how fun it is to use this phone. Just even today a good friend at lunch told me he finally got the iPhone 3G, and he loves the apps on it. That seems to be a reoccurring theme. So what is it that makes people first want the iPhone, then settle for something less? Can someone help me out with this? Maybe I’m just hard headed, but we’ve seen what the iPhone can do. After seeing that why bother with the cheap imitators? Their interfaces are clunky, the touch screen doesn’t use multi-touch, that is if it even works. I just need your help in helping me understand these iPhone imitators. It’s like the same thing with the iPod all over again. When will Apple be toppled by someone other than itself? You let me know! Thanks!
