The joys of owning a car are tremendous. You feel a sense of freedom that nothing else gives you. At any moment you can take off for a road trip, gather up your things and just leave. Driving across the country seeing the beautiful countryside right by the road. With the right friends and the right season any kind of road trip will be incredible. But vehicles aren’t limited to just road trips, they provide us a way to get to work and make that all important money. They let us quickly travel across two hit up the newest Starbucks. They let us take a beautiful girl out to dinner. They let us… well you get my drift right?
The only downfall of the modern day vehicle is the liquids required to run them, and I’m sure you know what they are. Sadly they ALL revolve around OIL, atleast the essential ones. Oil to lube the engine and make sure everything runs smooth without grinding any of the pistons up, and gasoline that let’s those wheels turn in the first place. Besides the side effect on our sweet planet Earth that gas gives us, it also takes a big hit into our pockets. One of the good things about this economic burst we’re experiencing is that the gas prices have dropped significantly in the last few weeks, that is unless OPEC has its way, and this is exactly how I’m going to relate this long rambling to the iPhone.
One of the touted features of the new iPhone 3G is its GPS. With that GPS you can easily find your location and guess what that means for gas? That’s right! There are some awesome apps out there for you that will help you find the cheapest or just the closest gas stations. So with that combination in hand I’m going to tell you about two AWESOME and FREE gas finding apps that I use whenever in the car to get my oil fix.
GasBag
I put GasBag first because it’s my favorite. I also prefer their logo over the other ones, and I love the name, but that’s just me. Gasbag opens very quickly and after locating you, you are quickly on your way to getting gassed up. The interface of the app is something we are all VERY familiar with, Google Maps. GasBag will show you all of the gas stations near you and even some are labeled as BP and with the price of a gallon of gas. You can even simply choose which type of gas you want it to search for as well. Starting at Regular all the way up to Premium and Diesel. You can also record your purchases in the apps “logbook,” another awesome feature to help you keep track of your gas habits.

MyGasWars
This app is another favorite that helps me find gas. The initial interface give you the choice to tap Gas Wars, or add a gas station located somewhere else so you can check a far off price, perhaps somewhere where you think you will have to fuel up on a trip. If you tap on MyGasWars you’ll be taken to an interface that uses Google Maps to display the locations and prices if available. It doesn’t show you which gas station it is, and the app itself is a little sluggish but these are things that can be easily fixed in future updates. (I hope it is) MyGasWars does at least list the stations below the map which is handy.

All in all these apps stick to their guns and help you find gas and gas when you need it! I highly recommend these if you travel a lot. They are free apps so don’t worry about the economy with these apps. They’ll also help you find the cheapest gas which is a plus. Some apps cost you ten dollars and then don’t help you save ANY money! Hurry and grab these apps and let me know your verdict on them. I’m serious, LEAVE ME A COMMENT! K, thanks.
