Find What You Need With Where To?
June 1, 2009 by Ryan Ray
Lucky me for having the pleasure to tell you about one of my favorite apps of all time. It may just be me but I’m a sucker for a good looking app and this one pulls it off well…am I the only one who likes a great interface? That’s probably what sold me on this one although the functionality could be accomplished without the app like one user said on YouTube, it’s just the interface and simple ability that makes me like this app better than just using Google Maps.
This app is called Where To? and for good reason. The app asks a question, Where To? and with it’s well layed out interface and easy to us controls and categories will help you find anything you need. Like I said earlier someone left a comment on YouTube posing the question this app isn’t needed if you skip straight to searching Google Maps which is already installed on every iPhone. While I say yes you are correct, nothing beats having this app which for one has a great interface and two makes using Google Maps much more convienent.
Let’s show off this interface first since we’ve been talking about it so much. Below you can see the main screens layout. It’s a giant circle with icons that represent different categories. Categories like food, shopping, mechanics, places of interest, entertainment, etc.. To get started in a category just tap the icon.

After that you’ll be given options like clothing for men, different kinds of food if you happen to choose the food section. For example mexican, indian, chinese, etc… from there it will find your GPS location and search in Google Maps for what you finally decided on. On a side note in the food section you can have it pick at random somewhere for you to go, something I like as I do appreciate a good surprise now and then haha. There are two other sections that go along with this app that I’ve been using the most. One that gets the most use from me is the favorites section. Here obviously you can add things you often search for to your favorites. I have the random restaurant, pizza, clothing, and Apple Stores just to name a few. You can customize this to anything you’d like. In my opinion one of the great things about this app that makes it worth $2.99. Below is a screenshot of my favorites.

Next is another feature that I like about the app. A recent search section. As you can tell I’ve used the clothing for men one quite a bit. You can’t blame me though, I was in Philly and looking for some great clothing stores. I found some thanks to this app by the way. An Urban Outfitters and American Apparel within a block of each other! The blue stars means they have been added to your favorites section. Just in case you were wondering.

Personally I love this app, mainly because it looks good but also provides a convient way to search and use Google Maps. It may not be for everyone but do check out the video below to decide. $2.99 isn’t much to ask for a convienence like this. Again let me know what you think, I’d love to have a discussion about this app. Thanks for reading.
