How To Print From The iPhone

February 9, 2009 by Ryan Ray

For some of us iPhone users when we hear, “You can print from you iPhone,” we say umm so what. I fall into that category. Only because out of the almost two years I’ve been using my iPhone I’ve yet to come across a situation where I’ve wanted to print something from my iPhone. On the other hand there are plenty of people out there who use their iPhone for everything and that must include being able to print from it. It might just be me that hates printing, but let’s cover two ways to print from the iPhone

Obviously there is no way to connect the iPhone to a printer except through Wifi. Who needs wires anyway? Wireless is the future so it comes as no surprise all of the new printers are coming with the ability to join wifi networks. Which is a good thing, hopefully soon all computers will no longer have the need for an ethernet port as wifi speeds have surpassed wired speeds. One can dream right? With that said there are two apps, yes they are legal apps in the app store, that enable us to print from the iPhone. What are they you ask, well let me explain them below.

The first is called Air Photo, and it goes for $2.99 in the app store. You also have to download a seperate “server” app as they call it for your computer. It comes with versions for both Windows and Mac which allow your iPhone to talk to your printer. Now obviously since the name is Air Photo it only lets you print photos, but it has many feature when printing your photos. It auto rotates them,  and lets you crop or letterbox them. This comes back to those people who user their cell phones as their cameras, and when they want to print their photos from the iPhone they can email them one by one, transfer them through iPhoto etc… or simply print them straight from the iPhone now with this app. Definitely a worthy app for 3 bucks.

The second app is called iPrint Photo. This app is made by HP and of course it easily talks to any networked HP printer. The printer works if it’s either connected by Wifi or plugged in. As long as your iPhone and printer can get on the same network. This app only cost $2.99 as well.

Now both of these allow you to print photos and print them easily, but as a  bonus I want to tell you about an app called Print. This app lets you print off emails, documents and things such as that. Just for those people who need that ability. It again cost $2.99 unless you get the fancier version which we won’t talk about right now. It also requires software running on your computer.

So I don’t hav a printer! I don’t have a computer! The iphone is supposed to b an amazing piece of technology but I cannot see this! I hav children who I am quite partial to taking photos of randomly wherever whenever, these photos are priceless to me. Someone tell me how I can go to tesco and print them on their photo machines? My old £20 phones I could do this with through bluetooth no problem!
