Just For Designers, Color Expert

October 31, 2008 by Ryan Ray

So your a designer, or at least you want to be…eventually right?! You sit through your classes about color, and it’s many theories. Color is just a reflection of light isn’t it? You’ve hopefully got your Macbook Pro or atleast an iMac. Afterall it’s so painfully obvious that if you want to be a designer you must pick up a computer made by Apple, then don’t forget CS4 that just came out. Alright so you think you are set, that is until you hear about this app for the iPhone called Color Expert. Now after I tell you great designers about this app you are going to have to go out and get an iPhone and a plan just to be up on top in the design world.

Colors are all around us, and it’s so funny how oblivious and used seeing color we are. I am far too guilty of not noticing the awesome hues and tints around me everyday. Especially since Fall is here the leaves and pumpkins are so awesome to look at and enjoy. We don’t even know the power that color has over us in many ways. What if when you are looking for a person of the opposite sex to flirt with, do you go for the blondes? Maybe you prefer the brunettes, or there is just something about the red head that drives you crazy. What about the color of their eyes? Color is there guiding us. How about when you get ready in the morning, I know ALL of us try and coordinate our clothes together by color. Even us guys do it, although most of the time HORRIBLY. What I’m really trying to say is that color is more important than anyone realizes.
This app, Color Expert, brings about the ability to select all of the colors for your designs right from your iPhone, or iPod Touch but a REAL designer has an iPhone ;) . The app isn’t only for designers though, if at anytime you deal with color this app is indispensable. It has an awesome color wheel and if you don’t like the wheel you can choose from swatches. You can also easily pick colors from photos, and from any industry standard color palettes such as the Pantones, and Web safe colors. With these features and slick interface it makes it really easy to get the right colors you need. It even offers Monochromatic, Analogous, Complementary, Split Complementary and Triadic options. Just check out these shots of the interface below

I mean really it doesn’t get much better than that right there. Adobe should make their interfaces that slick and nice looking! So if you love color and use it for your job DO NOT hesitate to grab this app RIGHT NOW, it’s only $9.99 and works like a charm. There is also an update coming that will let you send your palettes by email to use with the Adobe Suite, among many other improvements. It’s going to be a sick app as time goes on. Check it out and let me know what you think about COLOR!
