You have read that entirely correct, the day you thought would never come! You can now order a BEAUTIFUL, BIG Chipotle burrito on your iPhone and then pick it up later at the nearest Chipotle. How awesome is that? For one I am pretty pumped, but still at the same time saddened as Anderson does not yet have a Chipotle. I have to travel a little ways to get my taste of heaven. You can already order online on Chipotle, which is great, this just takes it a step further. Takes online ordering to the mobile world. In my opinion this is one of the best uses for the iPhone

If you are a little lost and don’t know what Chipotle is, then I feel a little sorry for you. This is one of the best burrito places around these days. To explain it best, it’s very similar to Subway. You might even say it’s the Subway of burrito joints. Simply pick if you’d like a burrito, their main staple, or things like a bowl of ingredients, taco salad, etc… Then choose what kind of beans you want, rice, lettuce, tomato, etc… Trust me you don’t want to miss out on a Chipotle experience. If you haven’t already figured it out, I like Chipotle. I think that’s enough said about that…hah.
Apple has been very interested in this type of application for the iPhone. Evident buy their application for a patent in July 2006, which was approved in December. There has always been talk in the iPhone community about this type of functionality. It even went so far as inspiring an artist to design a mock up of what it would be like to order from Starbucks on the iPhone. I remember seeing this mock-up. This designers name was Phil Lu, and with that mock-up I wonder why Starbucks didn’t snatch it up and create it. It was gorgeous and really showed what could be possible in the mobile world of online ordering.
Now some may say, “This takes away from a person to person interaction, why aren’t things like they used to be?” I can see where you are coming from, but also I’m a big technology nerd. I would love to use my iPhone like this, and I think many people would like to as well. The Chipotle app has a simple interface with four tabs at the bottom that are labeled; Food, Order, Find, and About. From the Food section choose which type of item you want. Such as the burrito, or burrito bowl, etc… then under order you choose the ingredients. Things like chicken in your burrito or steak, guac, etc… Find is similar to a search function, and of course the about section tells you about the application. Really there isn’t much more to the app itself, get the food you want and get on to enjoying it, hah.

Now some may be against this, some may be for it. Technology is all about this though, it’s supposed to enhance our lives and make it easier for us to live day to day. Personally I would love to see more of these pop up. Currently the Chipotle app has disappeared out of the app store, but I hope only because it was too buggy. If it doesn’t show back up soon, I will be deeply saddened. What do you all think? Is ordering from your iPhone something you are interested in, or is it completely stupid? Voice your opinion here and let me know. Thanks a ton for reading.
