iPhone Etiquette

We get it, you own an iPhone. It’s so shiny, smooth, and sexy. Apple is a GOD for building such a device, particularly Steve Jobs. We all know if you could you would bow before him and never stop worshipping him. This phone is slick. It’s got Wi-fi in it, unlimited internet from AT&T. I’m so incredibly jealous of your iPhone, wait… except for the fact that I have the iPhone 3G… So suck on that fool. I even sold my old one for more than I payed for this new one. Who’s the chump now?

What a wonderful surprise to wake up to on a Friday. If you are as unaware as I was then listen up! Apple has released an update to iTunes bringing it to 8.0.2 last night. Also they then released the new iPhone 2.2 software shortly after midnight. Sadly for myself, and I’m sure many other students, I was busy working and doing homework. Luckily when I checked my Twitter updates this morning I read all of the people tweeting about the updates. For iTunes here are what they list as fixes;
iTunes 8.0.2 improves stability and performance and provides a number of important bug fixes, including:
3 Great iPhone Security Tips

You’re one of those people aren’t you? Obviously since you clicked to read this article. You read the title and immediately you freaked. You started breathing heavily, leaned to the edge of your chair, and put on your tinfoil hat. You HATE it when other people can pry into your information, particularly into your phone. All of your contacts are sitting there, addresses, phone numbers, birthdates, pictures, just waiting for a hacker to take over them. Remember what’s happened to a few celebrities when their phones were hacked? In particular I remember Pete Wentz and Paris Hilton’s phones were easily exploited. Perhaps you have risky pictures on there as Mr. Wentz did, or maybe you have secret dates or emails other eyes shouldn’t see.
Apple iPhone Pwning Blackberry

The title of this post of celebration is totally true. Although it sounds like bait to come get you to read this, the reality is that Apple has beat RIM at it’s own game. If you are unaware of what RIM is let me help you out real quick. RIM, which stands for Research In Motion, is the maker of the Blackberry. Up to now the World’s most popular smartphone. It was the first phone to make head roads into the enterprise, quickly gaining its spot on the top of the business world as the phone to use. Now RIM also provides the data push support, that makes things such as email, contacts, calendars, etc.. to be updated immediately as it is pushed from their servers to your Blackberry. RIM also provides a server called Blackberry Connect which lets other smartphones like the Palm Treo use their push services. Like I mentioned RIM was sitting pretty at number 3 in the most phones sold, until this quarter where Apple has outshined them with the iPhone. Here are some hard numbers to back up the claim that the iPhone is PWNING the Blackberry…

iPhone Software 2.0.2 Update Review
August 26, 2008 by Derek Walter · Leave a Comment
After slowly rolling out its first software update, the recent 2.0.2 release is getting major play on Apple’s web site.
It’s Apple’s latest attempt to patch some of the holes that are keeping its customers from full iPhone 3G bliss. The complaints about the 2.0 software include keyboard freezes, reception issues, and program crashes.
About a month ago Apple released 2.0.1, the first patch that included what Apple called generically “bug fixes.” But most forums indicated that it didn’t solve much of an issues. Some of the same bugs and other problems seemed to resurface a few days after the download.

It’s no secret that for some reason – which us Joe Q. Publics won’t hear about due to the developer-stifling NDA – that there has been a strange absence of video recording applications on the iPhone App Store. Before the iPhone 3G, video recording functionality has long been accessible to jailbreakers through DreamCatcher’s iPhone Video Recorder. Since the 2.0 firmware though, video recording has been absent. Until now! Read on to hear about Qik.com and their amazing live video streaming client for the iPhone.

PwnageTool 2.0.2 has been Released – Download it Here
August 9, 2008 by Erik MacKinnon · 3 Comments
The iPhone Dev Team have sped things up and released PwnageTool 2.0.2, which can successfully jailbreak the newest 2.0.1 iPhone firmware from Apple. From the iPhone Dev Team’s official blog:
Good Morning!
Did you think we’d sleep? really?
Recommended method for updating is Sparkle (the internal updater inside PwnageTool) or using the Finder to decompress the files, don’t use command line tools to decompress as incorrect use will not preserve permissions, just double click the download above in the Finder.
Secrets of The App Store
We all love the app store. One central spot to go and find that awesome app for your iPhone. Other “smartphones” don’t have this simple, easy to use spot to come and find the apps for their phones. They must scour the depths of Google, or Yahoo, etc… to track down an app that might take us iPhone users 2 minutes to find and download. Their “smartphones” can’t go and get the app by itself, they can only access and install apps from their desktop computers. Nothing like the beautiful app store on our iPhones. Even when updates are released to the apps those other phones have no idea that the app has been updated. Not the case for iPhone users. We really are quite lucky to have such a feature on our phones. But don’t let all of that goodness fool you for too long.
