App Store Updates Like Christmas Morning
September 29, 2010 by Ryan Ray · Leave a Comment
This is going to be quite the light hearted post. Just wanted to break the rhythm of reviewing apps, demanding this or that from Apple, etc… Today I wanted to talk about one of my favorite things about the iPhone and it’s app store. That of course is App updates.
AirPlay & The iPhone

For us in the jailbreak community software updates are usually late coming for us. We make sure we can preserve our jailbreak status before even touching the newest software from Apple. We all know that upgrading will erase any notion of a jailbreak that you used to enjoy. With that said I’m very tempted to dump jailbreak for this new feature that will be coming along with the iOS 4.2 update.
Sleep Cycle Alarm App

This may be old new for some of you, but as of recently this is the coolest thing that I’ve stumbled on for the iPhone. The app is called Sleep Cycle and it’s quite a bit more than your traditional alarm clock app. The app will sense your motion and then try to wake you up with soothing sounds when you are in your lightest stage of sleep. This is such a genius idea and a very cool use of the accelerometer in the iPhone. There are other apps apparently that also try to replicate the same idea, but this one is only 0.99 cents so of course I’m trying this one first. On the last row, the only icon there, is what their icon looks like. Am I happy about it…. nope. They could definitely use a new icon!
AppShopper Review

This is definitely going to be a cool thing to use in the future. The website AppShopper.com has just released their very own iPhone app. A great move on their part, I’m definitely a fan. If you’ve never used AppShopper before their site will help you find apps that have been updated, price changed, etc… It’s a great community to find new apps, it’s also a great place for smaller developers to get some exposure. Just be sure to check out the site to see for yourself what I’m talking about.
Game Center v. OpenFeint
September 1, 2010 by Ryan Ray · 9 Comments
Here are two things that I don’t know much about that both relate to the iPhone, they are both two similar takes on a gaming platform for the iPhone and iPod. I’ll come out right now and say that I’m much more in favor of Apple’s take on it, but in all fairness I’ve never used either of them. I have tried to use OpenFeint on a few occasions and sign up through a few great apps I have, but it never worked for me. Pocket God and Mini Squadron are two fantastic games that use OpenFeint to keep track of scores, achievements, etc… This is what Apple is also setting out to do with Game Center.
Apple Store App

Hey everyone surfing out there in iPhone land. How about that iPhone 4? We’ll talk more about that later. First let’s mention the online Apple store. Apple finally got around to making an app for the iPhone where you can shop for all Apple products online. All is well in the app, it’s easy to use and is your staple online store app. Has all their products, categories, cart, store finder, etc… I always wonder if anyone out there will be ordering more Apple products from their iDevices more so than they would just walking into the stores, but I guess Apple saw a need for this app so let’s check it out.
iPhone 4 Hands Off Review
June 11, 2010 by Ryan Ray · Leave a Comment
Hands off? What do you mean hands off? Well sadly I am not a mainstream, fancy pants, blogger and can’t work my way into WWDC. This is where after the Keynote lots of high profile bloggers could get their hands on the iPhone 4 and see what it’s all about. Instead I get to look at their pictures and say ooo ahh until the day the iPhone comes out and I rush to get it ASAP. See I’m just a normal person like you! Haha, anyway thanks to Engadget for letting me poach their pictures so I could help illustrate my favorite parts of the new iPhone 4. That’s what we are going to do today, the last post talked about just the new hardware so now we’ll talk about what I’m really excited about on the new iPhone. Let’s get started shall we?
The iPhone 4 Is Here

Read it and weep everyone the iPhone 4 has been announced. Not that most of you didn’t already know, it’s been TWO DAYS since it’s unveiling and I’ve yet to talk about my personal feelings for it. Before we get to that post though I should mention all of the specs, or at least the important ones, just so you know how great this new iPhone is. Ready?
Move Nuts With The iPhone
May 19, 2010 by Ryan Ray · Leave a Comment
Finally, the day has come! There’s a funny, novelty iPhone app that has their sights set after our heart. Not that the app is called iPhone nuts or anything, if someone still wants to make one with our namesake
The app does combine the iPhone and nuts though. The app is called Magic Mover and apparently can do just that.
It can move random objects with your iPhone. I don’t know if you remember ever seeing this app but these guys are the same people who created an app that can move objects by blowing air. This one essentially does the same thing but with vibration. Check out their site if you want to see their other pretty funny apps.
What The iPhone Needs; Nested Texting
May 15, 2010 by Ryan Ray · 2 Comments
Here we are again with another installment of the ever so popular series called, What The iPhone Needs. It’s simply a place where I can rant about what I think the iPhone should have. Really they are either stupid complaints or simple improvements on the existing iPhone. So today I wanted to rant/talk about the SMS app on the iPhone. I’ve never used any other texting app, although maybe I should do some research and see if any others solve my problem. I’ve always just used the standard, Apple supplied texting app. If you know of any better texting apps let me know, I’m open to trying something new.
