It’s about 1:15 in the morning here in the Midwest of the U.S. If you didn’t know I’m a full time student so for one it’s not strange to be up this late trying in vain to do homework and catch up on work. I’m very sleep deprived and have been for the past week. I missed 3 days of classes after my Great Grandma passed away. I decided it was worth the time to go home and be with family instead of keep up with school. I can always make up quizes and tests but not revisit my Grandma’s funeral. I tell you all this just because I’m a person too behind this keyboard. I thought you would appreciate to know what I’ve been doing and why I haven’t posted something nutty about the iPhone since October 26th!

I really appreciate your patience even not knowing the situation. For my sleep’s sake though let’s get on the road and talk about an app we’ve reviewed ONCE here at iPhone Nuts. The developer being the nice guy he is let us know that he’s got version two of his app out so we’re going to put it through it’s paces again. After doing some digging here is what I’ve found that’s new. Please correct me Mr. Mengelt if I’ve missed anything. Of course there are new levels! 50 of them I believe. There are some original music and sound effects added now, now worries if you like your game silent. You can turn it off in the options. That’s there for you who listen to your iPod while playing games. Of course autosave is still there, as well as the ability to move the main interface to the top or bottom of the screen. Personal preference as to where you like it!

But you might ask, “What’s your favorite part of the new app?” Well personally I love the new directional pad that was added. The game without the D-pad works with multiple swipes to move the robot across each level. At time though all that swiping can get monotonous. It’s great to use a D pad and move your robot around now. You should check it out if you are a fan of it. I believe you can turn it on under options. So you want to see some more screen shots? Alright well check it out below.

Like I mentioned you can turn on or off features to your personal liking. Try the D-pad out once though. See what you think. The next picture is the instructions on how you play this game. The great little map key is still there too. Definitely helpful in identifying objects for the noobie like me.

Just to show you how the levels progress the above shot is level 1. Pretty simple, you should be able to figure this out before you even start moving boxes. Again remember you can only push and not pull these wooden boxes. Now look at level 2.

Things get a little more complex here. As you can see you have to push this box up onto a lever to turn off that green thing blocking us from the exit. Also pick up the gear there on the upper left part of the level. As you can guess the levels are going to get harder and harder from here. Don’t worry about getting stuck on one level. You can skip up to five at a time I believe. Just to let your brain do some new solving. You can also reset the level you are on if you get stuck on a certain level.

So, worth the upgrade? Yup, I’d say so. If you are already a fan of Boxed In then fork over .99 for 50 new levels and a D pad. A cheap but effective 99 pennies spent. The developer is working hard for you guys so show your support and try out Boxed In 2. Leave a comment and let me know your own opinion of Boxed In 2. I’ll be trying to conquer this game over the coming weeks. I’m notorious for not being good at games. Sorry, I wasn’t born much of a gamer. Anyway, have a great Tuesday. I’m going to get some rest. As always, thanks for reading!

Apple iPhone News, Reviews, Hacks, and More Copyright 2008 iPhone Nuts. I know you want to. After a series like that I thought I would come back with a video review of one of my new favorite apps. The app is called Ragdoll Blaster and is made by Backflip Studios, who also make another one of my favorite games called Paper Toss. Ragdoll Blaster if you can guess from the title of the app, is a game that involves you shooting ragdolls out of a cannon and trying to hit a red target. Now that may sound simple, but as each level progresses the tricks to hitting the target become increasingly difficult. You’ll see what I mean in a bit.

The game has two versions for you to download, one is a free and lite version. It comes with quite a few levels but you can easily burn through them if you get hooked like I did. The paid version comes in at $1.99, and it is worth the two bucks to play the full version of this game. Like I said I quickly burned through the lite version, and said to myself I better go get the full version now. So I did, which is exactly what they wanted. Developing an addicting game and then selling it for cheap. Genius. Let’s talk about the actual game play now before showing you the video

Once you downloaded the free one, became addicted, and bought the full version you are greeted with this welcome screen from Backflip Studios. Pretty sweet, just make sure you don’t forget who made this game! The next screen is again a static screen that does nothing. You’ll see this for a few seconds as the game loads. It keeps getting more and more exciting!! Now onto some game play

This is one of the levels in the full version of the game, as you can see the name of the level is “Decoy.” An important part of this game is thinking ahead of how to use your ragdolls. The point of the game is to use as few of them as you can to get one to touch the target. The game automatically keeps track and will tell your your best if you’ve previous played the level. This is what actually makes the game challenging. It’s puzzle solving and strategic. You’ll see more of this and how that works in the video below.

Here are some of the other features of the game. One that I really like is the level select. If you happen to get stuck on a level you can jump ahead to at the most 5 levels. It often helps to give your brain a rest on that level and move on. It can make a difference to come back to the level later with new problem solving ideas. I had to do that at the current level I’m on. I just couldn’t figure it out, so beware of the level boxed in. That was my first tough one.

This is what the level select looks like. No biggy, the level in red is the one you are currently playing. Then if you have played it before it shows your best score. The next picture is under the options menu. Here you can adjust these settings to your liking. Turn the music off and leave the sound on, I’d recommend turning the sight line on. That makes aiming your shot a lot easier to see it’s line of travel.

All in all, a great game! Not to mention it’s pretty cheap. At only $1.99 you can’t go wrong playing this game. I’m excited to see how quick I can get to the end of the game, perhaps the developer at Backflip will offer expansion packs for cheap once the levels run out. Just a hint, just a hint. If you’ve played the game then leave a comment and tell me what you think. If you’ve yet to play it then wait no longer. Get the free version and experience the fun. The video review is below, watch and enjoy.

Apple iPhone News, Reviews, Hacks, and More Copyright 2008 iPhone Nuts. Full of great features like MMS, copy and paste, etc.. so what are we going to do to pass the time? Well being iPhone nuts, we are going to pass the time by playing games on our iPhones until 3.0 is available. By the way, I’ve got a copy of the 3.0 software and will be reviewing it so when it’s officially out tomorrow you guys will know all the tricks and new feaures, inside and out. It’s going to be a great week to be an iPhone owner, especially if it’s your first iPhone.

This game has been great to play and I’m glad I found it sitting at the top of the app store. I say that because it belongs there and should be downloaded by everyone. The game is called Paper Toss, and like the name says you toss (actually it’s more like flick, not toss on the iPhone) paper into a trash can at 3 different distances away. Closest is obviously easiest, medium puts the can in the middle, and the hardest level puts the trash can as far away as it can go. The setting of Paper Toss is in an office, with the developers saying that this is often a game played by many in an office setting. Now I can’t say that’s true as I’ve never worked in an office, but I have played this game in the classroom. Sometimes it was played with a paper ball, other times with a paper airplane.

The whole point of the game like I said is simple. Flick a paper ball off of the desk and into the trash can. Once you’ve got the hang of that, try and see how many times in a row you can do that. My personal best is on Medium at 17 times in a row. You might be thinking right now, well that sounds easy. Flick it the same every time and your score could be endless, right? Actually you are wrong. The part of the game that makes this very interesting is the fan. At each attempt to make the paper ball in the trash you have a fan blowing from either left or right, and with that the fan has different strengths as you can see below. Since it’s only at 0.19 in the shot below you barely have to aim to the right, but if you come across the strength at 5 or above (it doesn’t go to six) then you almost have to flick the ball behind the fan.

The game is best explained through video, so that’s exactly what I’ve done. In short this game is FREE, fun and fantastic, I’d highly recommend it to you as one of those games you keep around on a special spot on your home screen. At least I’m keeping it there for awhile, or until the next best thing comes a long and is worthy of taking it’s spot. Show the game to your friends and see how many times you or your friends can make it. Who will set the record, I’m at 17 so far on Medium anyone beat that yet? Haha, thanks for reading and enjoy

Apple iPhone News, Reviews, Hacks, and More Copyright 2008 iPhone Nuts. I enjoy talking about the iPhone and hopefully through that everyone picks up a different insight or learns something new. But let’s get into it shall we. I think after my stint on these free games we’ll move onto something else, like photography. I’ve got some stuff on that to share soon.

This game is called Tornado Mania, and once again it is completely free. Nothing beats a free game in my opinion, especially if it comes with a relative amount of free stuff to play. Just enough to get us hooked into buying the premium, paid version of the app. This is exactly what this developer has been doing with their games. We’ve reviewed at least two other chocolate games here lately and they deserve the top spots in the app store they are earning. Anyway, Tornado Mania, this game is obviously has something to do with tornadoes and them going into mania.

The premise of the game is that a crazy old scientist has finally invented a tornado machine, such a machine that allows him to control tornadoes. A mechanical way of lassoing and saddling up on a tornado. Just see for yourself how crazy this machine has made him.

As you load the game you will be greeted with a screen you are familiar with in all games. There is a play now button, a button to get more games from the developer, and a button to buy the premium Tornado Mania. To the left there are the settings and help sections as well if you needed them. But just hit play first and start destroying stuff with a tornado.

Finally we are into the game and on a rampage. There are two ways to control the tornado and they both work well. The first is that the tornado automatically spins in a clockwise circle, and if you just tap or tap and hold it will make the tornado spin the other way. This is better illustrated in the video below so be sure to check that out. The other way that you can control the tornado is with the accelerometer, but this is the least favorite of my ways to do so. The accelerometer makes it hard to control and I find the tapping method to be easier. Try both out though and see what you think.

In summary the game has one goal, control that tornado and as fast as you can destory some stuff. You can do combos, you can pick up farm animals, you can get specialities, etc… The game is over pretty quick in rampage mode, but play the career mode and you’ll be playing the game for awhile.

If you’ve played the game let me know what you thought by leaving a comment and telling me about it. If you are unsure about checking out the game then please watch the video below. Luckily it’s being given away for free, and not only that it has 99 levels that come with it again for free! There are plenty of driving games out there like crash bandicoot, etc… but this is the best free one I’ve come across.

If you are a fan of racing games then Stunt Car Free is right up your alley. Once you load the game you are greeted with some great racing music and the menu I took a screen shot of below. You can hit Play! or buy the premium version which is obviously a link to their iPhone made website where you can pick from a lot of their free and paid games. The paid version of Stunt Car allows for even more tracks, levels, new cars, new stunts, nitro boosts, play against friends, more music and sound effects, etc… It may be the little things that make it worth the $2.99 for you.

To play the game is actually pretty intuitive. The controls are on the screen and while being on the screen they don’t clog up your view of the action. When the light turns green your car will automatically start going forward and heading through the course. It’s your job to keep it balance and keep it from becoming beat up as it goes over jumps and ledges. You have two arrows to tilt your car if needed. One to the back and one to the front. I’ve always been using the one to the back to do wheelies, flips, and level out the car for perfect landings. The better you land the faster you start going, and you get points for a perfect landing. You also have in the bottom right a nitro button, that when it starts glowing is ready for use. Just tap it and off you go with your nitros burning. Also along the bottom is the health of your car, another reason to land right and not run into things. Along the track are ledges and old beat up cars that as a monster truck you must run over! They hurt your car if you don’t use the arrows to move over them. The last thing on the bottom of your screen is the brake button, something I’ve never used and suggest you don’t either haha. On the top you have your clock and a speed meter to help show you the momentum you are gaining by doing stunts, and landing them right. The faster you go the quicker you will get through the course and earn more points and unlock more cars. You also have a pause button in the top right as well. Here are some shots of it in action.

All in all you can’t go wrong with downloading or buying this game. I’ve actually been playing it and getting distracted as I try and review it. It’s highly recommended so go experience a fun game then get back to me on what you think about it. Is the free game plenty for you, or did you go buy the premium version? Here is my video review below, again leave me a comment with your opinion I’m interested! Thank you for reading and please enjoy.

Apple iPhone News, Reviews, Hacks, and More Copyright 2008 iPhone Nuts. I apologize if fishing isn’t your thing, but bear with me as you may be hooked (hah get it, good one huh?) after we talk about this app.

Sadly Flick Fishing isn’t a free app in the app store, but good news it’s only $.99. That’s not too much to ask for a well developer game that is fun to play. I first came across this game as I was sitting in Global Marketing class and a fellow classmate had his iPod Touch out playing this game. I noticed that it was some fishing game and that it looked fun. Need less to say I never asked him what game it was, but I soon found out thanks to the app store. Flick Fishing is an easy game to play. The controls are not hard, and as the name implies you flick the iPhone to cast your fishing pole out. One you’ve mastered that hard concept a faint reel shows up on the bottom of your screen, just touch that and reel clockwise to pull in your line. At some locations in the game you don’t need to reel as you are using a bobber, but at others you will be using a lure and have to reel it in. Here are a few screen shots.

As you can see in the last screen shot I’ve caught a fish. To catch a fish all you have to do is either yank back like you are setting the hook or just keep reeling and that usually does it as well. Once your fish is hooked you have these two new displays come up to help you land the big one. The first bar up at the top shows your line tension as well as how much line you still have out. This is a good indicator of how big the fish is, if the tension goes up quickly it’s most likely a giant fish. If the tension never gets out of the green safe zone then it’s going to be a small fish. You have to watch your tension as you reel in, otherwise the line will break and the big fish will get away.

To do that correctly you must watch the second bar in sync with the first one. The lower bar shows the fishes strength, if you are having trouble reeling him in it’s because he has a lot of strength left. If you slow down and let him wear himself out for a little bit his strength will go down which will make it easier to reel him in. Don’t stop reeling for too long though otherwise the fish will get off of the hook.

If you look at the 3rd screen shot you’ll see that if your lure you started with isn’t landing the big ones you can change your tackle and see if something else works better that day. My favorite is the luncheon meat!

Some of the other cool things about this game is that you can change locations. Some of the locations are fresh water and have varying levels of difficulty, but as you see on this map you can go out to the deep sea and try and catch the REALLY big fish. Each location is marked by a bobber.

Like I said this game is easy and fun to play, it doesn present a challenge if you try to go after the bigger fish. They are hard to catch and hard to reel in. I often break my line as I don’t have enough patience. Besides just going out to fish there is also a tournament mode and some other little hidden goals in there that you will find that make this game quite worth the $.99. Don’t wait any longer if you like fishing, this is the best game out there on the iPhone for it.

As always thanks for reading, leave me a comment if you’ve got anything to say about Flick Fishing. If you have nothing to say then please check out the video below. Click through the video to watch it in HD on YouTube. I hope if you have a significant other that you had a great day of love and all that clicheness, haha. I spent my Valentine’s Day in Cincinatti, Ohio playing ultimate frisbee for 6 hours straight. Honestly it was a lot of fun, I’ve found lately that I don’t so much enjoy cliche, romanticness, smooches, etc… so frisbee was good enough for me, haha. Is there anyone from around the Cinci area? We had one lady on our team at this tourney and I’m sure she enjoyed being around all of us guys for her Valentine’s Day just as much as we did. Besides Valentine’s and frisbee I discovered my new favorite game on the iPhone, let me tell you about it.

This game, I’m sure many of you have already tried and have fallen in love with it. It is called Rolando, and the point of the game is to roll these “Rolandos” around and get them to the end of the level. The levels are set up as puzzles that take a little bit of time and thinking to figure out. Naturally they get more complex as you complete them, so the first few are easy and easily allow you to get the hang of the controls of the game. The game uses tilt sensing to help you roll the Rolandos, and with that you often have to push blocks out of the way or into place to climb up a ledge or to get to a button, etc… There are even special Rolandos that stick to walls or are bigger than normal. For instance the King Rolando is HUGE.

There are two things that make this game stand out to me as a great game, and better than most games out there. For one it’s fun to play. The graphics in this game are incredible and match perfectly with the music creating a great game that’s visually fun to play and look at it. There are awesome butterflies fluttering around, and the Rolandos have the funniest facial expressions when you do different things with them. Like I mentioned earlier when you are pushing a block little beads of sweat fall of their faces. Secondly the controls are easily understood and easily mastered where you only have to worry about playing the level and solving the puzzle to get all of your Rolandos to safety. Like I said you tilt your iPhone to go either left or right, there is even a “gravity effect” where you can control gravity by rotating your phone. Things like that are just something you will have to check out for yourself to see how great it is.

This game gets two thumbs up from me. It’s priced at 5.99 for the full version with 36 levels, but there is a free “lite” version with 6 levels I believe. So if you are weary of buying it at first try the free version and then you’ll be hooked. I haven’t beat the game yet and I’m itching to play it right now, so if you’ll execuse me I’m going to try and finish this level. Below are some screenshots from the game. It’s a very simple game, but it’s free and worth checking out as a good time waster. It’s not for anyone under 9 years of age apparently, but not because it’s bad or anything. It’s rating comes from what happens if you lose. The monkey bursts into flames and burns. Semi violent, especially for our monkey lovers out there. Don’t call PETA though, it’s all digital!

The name of this app is called Monkey Fire, and like I said the name is a great description for what this game is all about. A semi violent and semi challenging game. If you’ve ever played a game like Lander it’s very similar. The game starts out set in an arena. You have thousands of people watching as you try and land this poor monkey that is strapped into a jetpack. The controls are all built into the accelorometer. Just as easy as the iPhone adjusts orientation in Safari and other apps, it controls the angle, tilt, and speed of the monkey. A simple tilt of the iPhone down will turn the monkey’s jetpack on and that slows his descent as you can’t land the monkey falling at full speed.

There are three variables that must be right in order for you to land the monkey successfully. They are as follows; Speed, Angle, and Position. In the game you have either a thumbs up or a thumbs down to indicate if you are doing ok in that variable. Obviously they aren’t to terribly hard to get one right but aligning all three is a little tricky, as you can see in my lack of skill in the video. Which by the way I know I’m putting myself out there for critique, especially on YouTube, but if you have feedback on it be much more worth both mine and your time to leave me constructive feedback. I just posted this video and it was trolled pretty quick. Hah, anyway thanks for the feedback killmats02.

On the right side of the screen you have bananas lined up which represent your fuel. You only have so many bananas to try and slow yourself down and align your monkey on the pad before running out. Once you are out you free fall and have no choice but to crash and make the monkey burn

Like some have pointed out, this game may seem dumb. Some people do play these games though so if you don’t have anything nice to say then keep quiet. That’s as polite as I can say it. Sorry if you don’t like this post, but I’ll bring you a game the majority of you will like. I promise, and it’s free! haha, I enjoy games like these as it poses a challenge for you to overcome. Until then I for one will be playing this game until I can land that monkey safely, and keep him from bursting into flames, thanks for reading!

Apple iPhone News, Reviews, Hacks, and More Copyright 2008 iPhone Nuts. Now that YouTube supports HD video I’m making one to show you how awesome this app is, and really when I say awesome I mean it. This is one of the greatest apps I’ve come across so far since the launch of the app store. Admittingly, I don’t do near enough browsing through it to really find those gems, but thanks to a friend of mine I came across this app. As a sidenote, if you ever have a great app you want to tell me about DO IT! This app has already provided me with hours of entertainment, and even though it is slightly hard to master at first it isn’t frustrating to play. It goes by the name TouchGrind.

You may be wondering right now, “Why is it named TouchGrind?” Well it could be a rollerblading game, or it could be a biking game, what about even a power tool game? Those are all close but no cigar. Do you remember perhaps about 8 or more years ago these things called “Tech Decks?” They were these miniature skateboards that you could pretend to skate on by using your fingers. I know I was probably in 6th or 7th grade when these became very popular, and I had a good collection of probably 8 of these Tech Decks hiding in my desk. At the time we didn’t have the accessories that came out later for Tech Decks, like the parks and stuff. We just used our books or chairs for our skateparks, hah.

Needless to say, when I first saw this game that was the first thing that came to mind was Tech Decks. I’m a skateboarder myself and love it when I’m able to get out and skate on a beautiful day. I used to get out every single day and skate, but once again responsibility strikes. I get cooped up inside doing work or trying to get good grades in school. Thankfully though TouchGrind let’s me pretend im outside skateboarding, and honestly I’m better in TouchGrind than I am in real life haha.

TouchGrind is very addicting to play. As soon as I went through the tutorials and learned the controls, which is very important, I couldn’t put it down. Funny thing is, even in the middle of typing this up I stopped and played a little bit. Just goes to show, it really is addicting. The graphics in the game are very good and look incredibly real. One of the things they boast about the game is it’s physics engine and I must say it has a good one. The board reacts to your flicks and gravity as if it were a real board. This is definitely what makes the game fun and challenging.

The game’s main menu is reminiscence of any good video game. The choices are similar to any game of this nature, mainly Tony Hawks series of video games. You have a wheel that has options on it as you can see in the picture below. You must rotate the wheel with your finger to choose other options. To the right of it is a description of the current option which helps explain what you are doing the first few times you are in the game. As a beginner I would choose the warm up option first until you get the hang of the game. Then after that move to the jam session. Once you are ready to unlock boards try your luck in a competition and see how high a score you can get. My skill has peaked so far at about 160,000. I’m getting better though because I want to unlock the boards that are at 1,000,000 points. How people get these scores, I have NO IDEA!

Like I said the gameplay is VERY fun, and there isn’t any justice I can do to it unless you get the game yourself and play it. I did try to capture it in a video so do check it out below. If you’ve played this game let me know what your opinion is on it. Now watch the video. Click through to watch it in HD on YouTube.

Apple iPhone News, Reviews, Hacks, and More Copyright 2008 iPhone Nuts. It’s another post about gaming on the iPhone! I hope all of the gamers out there are enjoying finally reading something about the iPhone and gaming here. Be sure not to miss out on the other iPhone gaming posts HERE. If you haven’t noticed lately Apple is making a big push with both the iPhone and iPod Touch to turn them into regular gaming devices. They are putting the iPhone up on the level of the PSP and especially the Nintendo DS. Which could turn to be disastrous as Apple has never pulled of gaming well in the past, especially concerning their Macs. Something is different this time though. Since the introduction of the iPhone/iPod Touch developers have been dying to make some games for it, and after the SDK came out it became entirely possible. But is the iPhone/Touch ready to take on the solid, and established DS? Here’s 2 good reasons. Let’s discuss them below.

1. The iPhone is Sure Powerful Enough.

The iPhone is definitely a beast compared to the DS, just check out these specs. The processor smokes the DS, and the screen is much higher in resolution. Something that is very important to gamers that want the best experience possible. Let’s not forget about Multi-Touch either. The iPhone’s touch screen runs circles around the DS and it’s “retro” stylus. Pleeeeease Nintendo, get with it… Here are those respective specs

Nintendo DS

Processor: two ARM CPUs (67MHz and 33MHz)

Screen: two 256×192 pixel screens

iPhone

Processor: ARM CPU @ 620MHz

Screen: 480×320 pixels

Credit
http://www.theiphoneblog.com

2. The App Store, DUH

To say it bluntly, the App Store is HUGE. To buy games for the DS you must hop in the car, or take public transit, and head to the nearest Wal-Mart and buy yourself the new version of Monkey Ball. If you had the iPhone you could skip all of that and simply connect to the App Store and get your game for $9.99 0n average. No more waiting in line at midnight for your favorite game, haha. Just use the amazing App Store. This also rings true for game developers, no money wasted on packaging and advertising, etc… With the iPhone’s superior specs, Multi-Touch interface, great storage, accelerometer, always on connection, etc… this is shaping up to be a beast of a gaming device.

So far the developers haven’t completely grasped the concept of creating games specially designed for the interface that the iPhone has. Everyone has been so accustomed to the traditional controllers that it’s a whole new thing to wrap their heads around and create controls. Just for instance in a game like Super Monkey Ball, instead of using a D pad to control the ball you now can tilt the iPhone to move the monkey ball.

The iPhone not only changed the landscape of the phone industry, but now Apple is aiming it towards the gaming industry. The question is though if the iPhone can compete in so many industries. Will the iPhone really be the all in one device we are all looking for? What do you think, can Apple pull this off? Leave me your thoughts! Thanks for reading!

Apple iPhone News, Reviews, Hacks, and More Copyright 2008 iPhone Nuts.
