Look what we’ve got here today. Yup, you’ve guessed it, it’s another hands on product review. This is something that hopefully we’ll get more into as time goes on. Because I can’t just review apps all my life, you know what I mean?! So please do get in touch with us here at iPhone Nuts if you want to have your product reviewed on the site. Thanks for that.

Let’s start first by saying, TGIF. It’s been one of those weeks, and I’m glad that it’s finally come time for the weekend. Although that doesn’t necessarily mean relaxation, it does mean no more class for two days or work for that matter. I’ll be playing drums and ultimate frisbee all weekend, making me very tired come Sunday. So happy Friday everyone, I hope the weekend treats you good. Before you take off though let’s check out this product.

This product goes by the name Invisible Shield, and it’s made by a company called Zagg. They are pretty popular and offer quite a bit of cases, accessories, even board shorts! I’m thinking about picking up the dual USB charger for my car. It’s a car charger with TWO USB ports, awesome indeed. The product we’re talking about though is obviously and iPhone Cover, since this site is all about the iPhone. So let’s get into it.

The shield comes in a cool little box, as you’ll see in the video. That has the shield(s), the special spray, a squeegee and instructions all inside. These are all important things to read carefully and follow closely. If you want the perfect installation of the shield that is. I won’t list the steps here, that’s what the box is for. But now let’s talk about what I think, like, and don’t like.

The shield itself is a thin film like material, it’s smooth on one side and has adhesive on the other to stick to your iPhone. Don’t worry about residue though, I can speak for taking the cover off my iPhone and the cover left no residue or anything sticky behind. Good job on that aspect Zagg! The shield itself is super, super strong. I’m not kidding either when I say that. I think I may make a video just to show you how strong it is as an add on video to this post. You can poke it with a pen, pull and stretch it, it just won’t tear or break. Just check out the videos on their website to see what I’m talking about. This product comes with a lifetime guarantee by the way. Don’t rip it on purpose and ask for another one, but this cover should not break!

The hardest part for me, being a perfectionist, was to get the cover on my iPhone and making sure it was perfectly aligned with everything. I’ve seen far too many cruddy screen cover installs. The screen is crooked, not aligned, and in general makes the iPhone look bad! The part of the video I fast forwarded was only about 12 minutes I think, so that’s how long it took me to CAREFULLY install the front and back of the shield.

After it’s installed the squeegee comes in handy to get the majority of the bubbles out. It does a great job of smoothing out the shield too. I’d recommend to use the squeegee extensively to work the shield to as smooth as you want. There will be a few air bubbles left, and that will just be real hard to get out with the squeegee. Don’t leave any big bubbles or wrinkles in the cover, those won’t come out over the next few days. They do mention that small bubbles will come out over the next few days though. Don’t worry about those.

So now that I’ve had the shield on for a few days, I can say that I really love it. For 2 days I used my iPhone without my Incase Slider case, which was hard for me. I’m just so in love with the Slider case as well. If you want the front and back protected though without a bulky case, this is the one to go for. Awesome protection with no added weight. After two days I couldn’t live without my Incase anymore, so I’ve now taken off the back protector and am only using the front protection in combination with my Incase Slider. This was a great decision in my eyes, but I know it doesn’t work for everyone. The shield itself adds some welcomed grip, especially if you were using the front and back. It makes the iPhone on a whole a lot less prone to dropping, etc… Which helps to overall improve my iPhone experience. Now if only, AT&T would let me send just one MMS. Haha

My Verdict: If you are in the market for a great iPhone shield/screen protector please do yourself a favor and get this Invisible Shield. I’ve even got a coupon code to help you out. If you are buying from Zagg then use: iphonenuts10 at checkout to get %10 off your order. I love the shield and will keep it on my iPhone until one of the two give out! Thanks for reading, and be sure to check out the video review below.

Hello everyone, welcome to Thursday afternoon. Tuesdays and Thursdays look to be productive days for me. No classes until 1, and on this particular day no classes until 2 since my 1 was canceled. This is a semi-first for iPhone Nuts. I’m actually going to review an iPhone product that I have on my iPhone. I’ve reviewed others that I’ve not used but only talked about for comparisons sake. This time I can offer a personal testimony to the product. By the way, if you want to send a product for me to physically review both in text and video send an email HERE. Thanks

Most iPhone owners I know don’t just carry around their iPhones anymore, not without some kind of protective cover at least. iPhones by themselves are pretty sturdy and rugged. Especially the first gen, since it was made from some kind of metal. I never carried my first gen in a case, and it did get roughed up a little bit. I didn’t even carry my 3G in a case when I initially got it. After awhile though I started getting into protecting my iPhone.

The main reason I stayed away from cases were that they made my iPhone bulky. I loved that it was sleek and easily fit in my pocket. But sadly, and gladly I am a case enthusiast now. The iPhone is a great investment and I’ve come to find that protecting that is worthy of any case. Luckily I’ve come across a beautiful looking case that isn’t too big and offers a lot of protection. Go figure that it’s made by the amazing people over at Incase. I can’t tell you how much I LOVE their stuff. This case is officially called the Slider. It retails for around $35 big ones.

Let’s go over a few things about the case before you check out the video. I personally bought the black matte case, and love it if you haven’t figured that out. But they offer the case in many, many colors. Just check out the link to the site for yourself. The picture up above is the back of the black case, and you can see the seem about 3/4 down the phone where the case slides together. Hence the name the Slider. Let’s take a look at the top now. On the top the case gives you easy access to the headphone port and the lock button. There’s no access to the SIM card slot, but that is alright with me. One thing about the headphone port I’ve found the hard way. Some AUX cables for cars, mainly my GF’s, have huge ends and don’t work with this case on. I can easily slide off the top, but it gets old quick. Be careful with what kind of AUX cable you get when using this case.

Here is the left side of the case, where your volume rocker and ringer on/off button are. Again very easy to get to. The case doesn’t get in your way. The next picture below is of the bottom of the case. Yes you can connect the cable easily, no the case doesn’t fit in the dock. You have to take off the bottom of the case to dock it. I guess that’s why they made it a slider case. I don’t own the dock, so it’s no big deal for me!

Like I said, this if my favorite case, EVER. It’s made by a great company which adds to why I love it so much. I’m going to be brave and tonight actually take off the case. I have another product review to do, that’s just a clear skin. That’s why I started with this one tonight. So check out this case, and be watching for another product review within the weekend. Until then check out my video review.

Once again I’m going to post about something different today, rather than review an app or do something incredibly boring like that… Don’t worry I’ve got TONS of apps still to review. It seems like MILLIONS of apps are created and released each day. Just not enough time in each day to cover all of them. But this is something that caught my eye and couldn’t be passed up. I just had to let you know about this. It’s one of those supremely geeky things, that only Apple nerds or iPhone lovers would buy. It may be similar to a calculator watch, or pocket protector. Which, for you and I, might be right up our alley. I know I love to collect little items like this. Those kind of, one off crazy collectors items. Thankfully this little set of coasters actually has some form of a cool factor to it. So let’s check them out. Hopefully many of you who read this site will enjoy them too.

So here is what I brought you this far for. It’s a crazy set of coasters, but get this. They are made to look just like the iPhone icons on the homescreen. Check out the picture below… The original icons are all there, SMS, iCal, Photos & Camera. YouTube, Stocks, Maps, Weather, etc… Sadly the Calculator icon has changed since they made these, but that’s ok. The old calculator icon makes it even more old school. Just imagine now if they could make coasters for all of our favorite apps that have been released. What was that news story that came out not too long ago about Apple having over 100,000 apps available! INSANE

Is that not one of the sweetest things you’ve ever seen? I’d actually be proud to have this coaster set in a room in my (future) house, haha. I guess that doesn’t say much about me since I’m currently using a Geico caveman coaster for my dorm room. These icon coasters were created by a design firm that calls themselves Meninos. Apparently they hail from Brazil, and if you check out their products they make some awesome stuff. Especially those external harddrives, those are pretty sick. Make sure you check those out if you are into this sort of thing.

Sadly these coasters are a touch expensive, especially for me, the cliche starving college kid. I barely make enough money to survive week to week. Luckily I’m floating by on scholarships and small loans, haha. Needless to say, $60 isn’t terribly bad if you’ve got the money to spend. It seems worth it to me, but I know I shouldn’t spend $60 on coasters… It’s sad being broke…

Anyway, is this cool or not cool? I just wanted to try posting something different. I want to keep it fresh here, and not just have an endless website with app reviews. I’m hoping you all agree too, so just let me know your opinion. Trust me, it always helps if you leave comments and let me know what I could do to make these articles better. Thanks, as always, for coming by.

Apple iPhone News, Reviews, Hacks, and More Copyright 2008 iPhone Nuts.

Welcome again to my wonderful world of iPhone posts. I actually have a little surprise for you at the end of this post, so if you read all of the post you will be able to see the last sentence in BOLD type and know what the surprise is. Trust me, I’ve installed code on this post that will not display the last line if you just scroll to the bottom hoping to beat everyone. You may be asking, is he for real right now? Well… I’ll never tell. Anyway you’ll get the code at the bottom of the page if you read my following review of this pretty sweet iPhone case. Let’s get started…

By the way did you know that the average human only reads around 23 words per minute? </hint>

I recently decided I wanted an iPhone case for my gorgeous iPhone 3G. But not any case would suffice. I had certain wants in my case, and I had certain needs in my case. Here are my top 3 wants/needs from an iPhone case.

It must protect the back of my iPhone from scratches, debris, etc…

It must be thin enough to still fit in my pocket comfortably, and in the dock.

It must not make using my iPhone a pain. i.e. I can use the screen and easily push buttons.

Now if I told you I found the case that came closest to accomplishing this list, would you believe me? Well I did find a case that pulled the closest to the finish line. This case goes by the name Ultra Slim Silicone Case. It’s made by a company called More…. I think, their branding isn’t quite clear to me. Now as I’ll have you know I’m always a little leery on buying things like cases. Then throw in that you want an iPhone case you usually get some cheap knock off POS. I do have my complaints about this case but it isn’t a POS.

Slimness

As you can read by the name of the case this thing is slim. They didn’t lie either, the case is really pretty slim. I didn’t need a big shockproof, waterproof, cat throw-up proof case, as some people may. I baby my iPhone and still then she gets scratched up. Anyway this case I purchased fits in my pocket and doesn’t come off…most of the time. It also fits in the dock and lets me sync and charge my iPhone. Also this case turns the slick back of the iPhone into a grippable silicone back. Pretty nice if you drop your iPhone from it being to slickery! For your information, I know that isn’t a word I just wanted to use it. So first it covered my number 2 need.

Armor

Like I said earlier I baby my iPhone, but still need simple drop and “set on my desk” protection. Since this case has a nice silicone composition it kind of helps the iPhone bounce off of things without killing, nor cracking or denting the iPhone. I even felt confident enough to take my iPhone on the lake today where it rode shotgun in a cubby hole with my camera among other fishing related items. It bounced around in there with nets, lunch meat, hooks, ponchos, etc… and came out just fine. Check number 1 off of the list.

Usability

You guessed it this case is a good case and it still lets you use your iPhone. Most cases seem to be like some sort of prison for the iPhone. The iPhone is only safe in its prison when you aren’t using it. So what I’m trying to say is that if you want your iPhone to stay safe then never use it. That’s a waste of $200 plus whatever it is you pay a month to have it. I wanted a case that would protect the iPhone as I used it. It also had to get out of the way and stay out of the way as I used my iPhone as I pleased. This case does that, making me pretty happy. Really the thing about buying a case for your iPhone is that you can still use it with the case on it, did I make that clear? I hope so…. Finally check off number 3, and this case seemed to be a good fit for me.

Drawbacks

Of course everything isn’t perfect nor what you had in mind, so here are my drawbacks to this case. This is called honesty people. This isn’t the end of the world and this doesn’t mean I don’t like this case, so don’t get me wrong. My first drawback is that the holes cut out of the case for the dock connection, camera, and headphone seem like semi homemade cuts. Some times when I look at them they look like ameture cuts other times they look like a machine made cut. This is some kind of trick they built into this case. I just wished they’d make their cuts better. Number 2, it could be just every so slightly tighter on the iPhone. Now I’m guessing the 16GB iPhone is thicker than the 8GB? I’m not for certain right now, but if it’s true then they should make cases for their right sizes. Sometimes in my pocket this case will come off barely at a corner or by the dock. This causes difficulty in getting it out of the said pocket. I’m thinking it’s only because of the silicone though. Silicone kind of grips blue jeans.

So that’s all, my favorite things about it and some of my drawbacks. I wonder if you read any of that or just skipped ahead to the bottom. I hope you know I was kidding about the whole code to tell if you read the entire post. I don’t know if anything like that exists. I just wanted to see your reaction, although I can’t really see it. I’ll just it imagine it ok? Anyway here is the deal. I want to buy someone this Ultra Slim Silicone Case in the color of their choice. I’ll buy the case and have it shipped to you on my own dime. I haven’t asked my boss about this yet, but I’m assuming it’s fine.

There is a catch though, as always, there are a few hints I will give you, then you must give me the answer in a comment on this post. The first person wins it all baby! I wanted to do this as a token of my appreciation to you, my awesome readers. Also to see if anyone will really take me up on a free iPhone case! Only someone kinda crazy wouldn’t so here is the clue…

It’s for better or for worse, also known as my first article. follow the trail to the end, then click on something red. Make sure you read the title or description. Once completed come back and be the first to name the model and make correctly.

not too much to ask right? Now solve the mystery. Leave a comment anyway if you know what the answer is I want to see how smart you are!

Apple iPhone News, Reviews, Hacks, and More Copyright 2008 iPhone Nuts.

The love of the iPhone 3G is immense, that is if you put aside one glaring issue… BATTERY LIFE!! GPS is great to have. It’s saved my tail many of times from becoming lost. Even this very weekend I used my iPhone’s GPS to get us around Indiana. If you weren’t aware I played in a band for a charity event in Indiana, and I live in Missouri. I used the GPS to find food, to find guitar strings, and even to give my friends directions via twittelator. Besides GPS the 3G network speed is wonderful. It’s so easy to surf the web or download email, even many of the apps I use load much faster now as the data they require zips over 3G. But what do you get for using all of these feautures? That’s right, battery life gets sucked down the drain. Almost as quick as you can say, “WTF, how come my iPhone is about to die?!”

Don’t fear though I’m here to rescue us all from iPhone despair. I’ve got what looks like to me the top 3 battery extenders for the iPhone. These are simply extra bulky packs of juice that your iPhone can use to power itself for just a little longer. Hopefully just long enough to get you to an outlet. Now I made a 6 + hour trip with my iPhone on just about the whole time, but I really had to watch the battery carefully. I would have killed to have one of these battery extenders. I even may buy one of these soon, so if you want to send one to me just let me know! Alright let’s check out these battery extenders, these all use the dock connection so it should work with 1st and 2nd generation iPhones. I’m sure even iPod Touch owners can use these.

1- Mophies iPhone Sled

I picked this one first as it was the first iPhone battery extender to be certified by Apple. They have a wonderful website and they have many different versions of this sled that fits every iPhone and iPod Touch made. They claim for the iPhone 3G that it will additionally add 350 hours of standby, 6 hours of talk on 3G and 12 on 2G, 6 hours on 3G and 7 on Wifi, 28 hours of audio, and finally 8 hours of video. It’s pre-order only at the moment and cost a cool 99.95. I am definitely thinking about choosing this one. The most expensive, but it looks great and adds a great amount of battery life.

2 – Kensington Battery Pack

This is the only one on sale at the Apple store, atleast online it is. It’s made by Kensington who makes all sorts of iAccessories for just about everything. This battery pack plugs in to your standard outlet and once it’s charged you plug the pack into your iPhone with the dock connection to USB cable. To me this isn’t as smooth as the sled but it works for many people. The good thing about this is that it’s a multi-use battery pack. It can charge any dock connecting device. It can even charge anything else that uses a USB cord as thats how you connect whatever device it is to the pack. This is what makes me want this device more than the sled at times. It can charge anything and might come quite in handy when I’m carrying other devices that need a charge besides my iPhone. Kensington claims you will get an additional 100 hours of music, 21 hours of video, or 6 hours of talk. They don’t disclose anything else and I wish they would. It looks as if this could be a more powerful battery though as the sled only offers 8 hours of video and 28 hours of audio compared to the Kensington pack. This will cost you 69.95

3 – RichardSolo Battery Pack

This is the final battery pack that I have deemed worthy for the iPhone, and it comes from Richard Solo. This pack has a built in dock connection so there are no cables to mess with, but the pack does/will seem awkward if you are trying to talk on your phone as you have this huge chunk of a battery pack added to the bottom of the phone. Just check out the picture below to see what I’m saying. On the website there aren’t any solid numbers to judge this pack from. It only claims to double your battery life you currently get. It does seem as a semi-vague description of the device. None the less this external pack gets the job done, and only cost you 49.95. The cheapest pack of them all, which price can be the deciding factor on things like this.

Now mind you there are many other packs out there for your iPhone/iPod but these are the ones I picked to be the safest and best value to your device. All of them I know for sure are certified by Apple to be safe for your iPhone. This means their circuitry is smart enough to not ruin your iPhone battery or the battery pack itself. It knows when to quit charging and save it’s own juice. So it’s all up to you to pick which pack you want the most and get it! I like them all and am having a hard time deciding so help me out. Let me know what you think about these. While you are at it check out our videos and our RSS feed. I personally think you should subscribe to both! Thanks everyone.

Apple iPhone News, Reviews, Hacks, and More Copyright 2008 iPhone Nuts.
