3rd Party Browsers Now On The iPhone

January 15, 2009 by Ryan Ray · Leave a Comment

We’ve talked quite frequently about the app store and how stingy it can be sometimes with what it allows and what it doesn’t allow. That’s why today this news surprises me. Of course Apple at first NEVER allowed any app to be too similar to any of the apps already on the iPhone. The original apps, that being the ones before the 2.0 update, were safe from competition. No developer could make an app too similar to them. That went for any calculator app, weather, media manager, etc… Obviously that also included ANY 3rd party browser. Apple has a special spot for Safari in everything, there was no way they would let any 3rd party browsers in the app store. That is…UNTIL NOW

Multi-Core iPhone Coming With Firmware 3.0 In June

January 11, 2009 by Ryan Ray · 1 Comment

It seems as if the internet is sending a little rumble out about this new hardware update for the iPhone. Apparently, and it has been true so far, the iPhone is on a product cycle “march” as Phil Schiller says. Every June, which has only been once a new iPhone been introduced. So in an unofficial way Phil Schiller has come out and said that there is a new hardware update for the iPhone in June. It really seems that way doesn’t it. I know that takes all speculation out of guessing when updates are coming to the iPhone, but Phil said it not me.

iLife & iWork ’09 Made Just For The iPhone

January 5, 2009 by Ryan Ray · 1 Comment

Tomorrow is the big day. Supposedly the last BIG Macworld for some time to come. Macworld has been great to us Apple lovers over the years, giving us some major product launches. In particular the sole purpose of this website, the iPhone. We all love the iPhone, and since many of us have either been long time mac users or converted after buying the iPhone, we love our Macs. Since the iPhone came out Apple hasn’t made much of their software  work together that well with the iPhone. There is of course iTunes, the big bad manager of all your media and the one that talks to your iPhone to sync it up. But when it comes to Apples software suits, iLife and iWork, there isn’t much to be said about the two working together.

Macworld ’09, Time For The iPhone Nano?

December 29, 2008 by Ryan Ray · 1 Comment

As any good and faithful Mac fan, we’re all gearing up for Macworld ’09. It almost seems to many that Christmas and the New Year are second best to the biggest Mac conference of them all. Macworld has been the platform for many, and I mean MANY, product launches from Apple. I’ve been around long enough to live through four Macworlds, which seems crazy to me but I know many of you have witnessed many many more than I ever will. Sadly, this year will be the last year that Apple participates in Macworld.

App Store Bringing Dead Apps Back To Life?

December 27, 2008 by Ryan Ray · Leave a Comment

The app store is something we blog about all the time, not only here at iPhonenuts.com, but millions of other blogs talk about the app store time and time again. Today is no different, ha. The app store has been a gold mine for TONS of developers, not to mention a great place for me to find things to blog about and review. I believe the app store is well past it’s 100,000th app by now and probably going to break a million in no time. Needless to say, the app store and the policies that follow have been giving countless people, developers and normal folks, headaches since it’s inception.

Attn: Developers Can Now Send Promo Copies Of Apps

December 3, 2008 by Ryan Ray · Leave a Comment

Big news as I woke up today. In fact this little tidbit, but significant new development, made me want to shriek like a little girl. Sort of like those girls that are at a Jonas Brothers concert…Imagine that coming out of me, a 21 year old man. Atleast I like to think of myself as a man. Times like that though make me wonder… Anyway enough of that! Here’s what’s happened today, Apple now allows developers to send promo copies of their apps to ANYONE. If you still don’t understand let me spell it out.

Top 5 Websites Made For The iPhone

November 27, 2008 by Ryan Ray · Leave a Comment

Let me start by stating the obvious… the iPhone’s browser is a work of art and it rules the phone browsing world single handedly! We’ve all known since the day of the iPhone launch that this mobile version of Safari is incredible at bringing us the internet on such a small screen. Remember the now defunct Apple ad that stated the whole internet in your pocket? It really was true, until some people called it lying since flash isn’t available in the iPhone browser. On a side note I say flash can burn in hell, but that’s just me. I know many disagree with me on that, but that’s life hah. So with a slow data connection and the full internet in your pocket, we have the chance to view some awesome websites. Throw in the new user interface based on touches, swipes, and pinches, web developers had an awesome and new way to create websites ready for mobile devices.

What The iPhone Needs; iPod Library Ringtones

November 18, 2008 by Ryan Ray · Leave a Comment

Let’s pause for a second and think back to the dawn of ringtones. They first came about in Japan around 1996, where else did you expect them to come from? Ringtones were available in MIDI format and few were available on those first phones. Eventually came a phone were the user could input a custom composition and use that as their ringtone. The first downloadable ringtone service came from Finland in 1998 by a company called Harmonium which as we all know from there has spread like wildfire and ever increased the easy access and popularity of ringtones. The “Harmonium” contained both a way for people to make their own ringtone and then a delivery method over the SMS system we talked about last time.

Need A Free iPhone? Enroll at Abilene

November 7, 2008 by Ryan Ray · Leave a Comment

What would you do if you were an incoming Freshman? Would you be freaking just a little bit? Many of us have been there twice, the first time in high school and once again in college. The first time is was enough for me, I had it rough haha. But get this, Abilene Christian University will be buying and providing every freshman with a new iPhone 3G or an iPod Touch. Just this year that happened to be 1,000 new students! How cool would that be to arrive and get the normal big stack of papers and your welcome t-shirts, only to toss those aside and rip into your newly issued iPhone 3G. That’s what I would be doing.
