Remember not to long ago when Apple held their “Back to the Mac” event? Well if you missed it let me summarize it for you. Steve Jobs and his crew of Apple visionaries took the stage and gave us a great insight into their philosophy on the next iteration of Mac OS X. Besides introducing a new iLife ’11 and New Macbook Airs which were both pretty cool in their own right, I hope some of those features and more make into the pro apps! I would say I most liked the sneak peek of Lion. Lion is what they are calling 10.7. It’s due this summer, so I hope to be seeing more peeks in the coming months. Their whole philosophy was to bring back the innovations that they’ve been doing on their iDevices back to the Mac. Some people aren’t happy about this, but I will go on record saying I am really excited about this.

The Mac App store, Launchpad, Autosave and autoresume are all making their way from iOS into Mac OS X. Like I said I really like the idea of this cycle Apple has now started. They took OS X and adapted it for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and then the iPad and AppleTV. They came up with some awesome ideas in that space. Now they are bringing some of those innovations back to the Mac. This only means that Apple has some interesting ideas in store for Lion. With all of the new technologies and features in Lion imagine how those will surely make their way to the iOS platform. The thing is we don’t know what features Lion will hold just yet. We only know of the iOS adaptation for the desktop. With all of this awesome new touch functionality I think I’m going to have to try the Magic Trackpad.

Anyway back to the iOS world for a second. What are people vying for on these devices? I know people always want flash, but I don’t think that day will ever happen. At least coming from Apple. The web is changing and by the time Flash gets slick enough for Apple to approve HTML 5 will hopefully be just as good and probably better. Or maybe some other technology will come along. So besides Flash what are going to the the next tent pole features of iOS 5? Leave me your ideas and let me know what you think! I’m scrambling my brain now!

Apple iPhone News, Reviews, Hacks, and More Copyright 2008 iPhone Nuts.

Happy “Pre-Order iPhone 4 Day” everyone! Too bad not everyone can pre-order theirs that easily. It appears a lot of servers are down today. Apple’s are struggling, AT&T’s were, perhaps even Radio Shack, & Best Buy had hiccups. People are apparently going nuts for the iPhone 4. I will be picking mine up in store, so I won’t be pre-ordering. I also have to sell my 3GS first, .

I started feeling bad for all of the people that are constantly hitting refresh and flipping out as they can’t get their pre-order in, so I though hmm what would be some good things to distract you while you wait to get through? Here they are in no order, give one a shot before you get back on apple.com and see if you can’t wait out this massive meltdown.

3 – Clean Your Current iPhone

I know this may not apply to everyone, but if you are selling your current iPhone as I am, give it some TLC. It will help you pass the time and perhaps make that bond with your current iPhone that much stronger. The 3GS has been a great phone for me, I’ll be sure to do background checks on whoever she ends up with next…

Start by taking off any case you have on it and wiping the dust from the cracks and ports. Use a microfiber cloth to clean the screen and finish it up..

2 – Take A Walk To Ease The Tension

I know some of you are wearing out your magic mouses going click crazy to see if the server lets your order through yet. Or worse you are venting away in some forum on macrumors.com about how stupid Apple & AT&T are for not seeing this coming, is that irony or not? You want Apple’s new product on AT&T’s service yet hate both the companies…nah not ironic, just chill out for a little bit. Get up from the computer and go take a few laps around the block or the nearest nature trail. It’ll make you forget about those stupid companies and that stupid iPhone 4 that you can’t have, haha.

1 – Go Back To Work

I’m sure a good majority of people are at work secretly trying to pre-order, or maybe you’ve even called in sick today along with everyone else (even the boss) to order the iPhone 4. Sadly you’ve found dead servers everywhere you go and you can’t leave your cubicle until your next 15 minute break to run to the nearest Apple or AT&T store to try and get your pre-order in before they are all gone. Again, just chill out and go back to work. You will be doing everyone across the nation like you a big favor by getting off their servers and letting some other paranoid person order theirs. Then you can order yours in peace knowing you made the world a better place.

Seriously, if your pre-order isn’t making it through just go back to your normal day and try later. The reason no one can get through ever, is because everyone keeps trying haha. You’ll get the precious iPhone 4 some way or another iKnow, let’s just take our time ok? Remember deep breaths, deep breaths.

Apple iPhone News, Reviews, Hacks, and More Copyright 2008 iPhone Nuts.

Calling all ye Mac faithful, calling all ye new and old iPhone developers! It’s that time of the summer again, where all us geeks venture out into the sun only for a bit to fine our way into the moscone center in San Fran. This is where Apple has their annual WORLD WIDE DEVELOPER CONFERENCE, where in the past they’ve really talked about OS X. That has diminished though, especially after the theme this year is called… “The center of the app universe.” Looks like it’s going to be all about apps this year!

Does this mean WWDC has become all about the iPhone? Will we ever see a glimpse of 10.7? Please Apple quit pushing OS X, at least the desktop version, into the background. I know that the iPhone and iPad are cash cows right now, but they aren’t anything without your computers. Just a small cry from me to you Steve. Steve’s keynote kicks off in roughly two hours and we’re definitely expecting big things. Steve Jobs has promised that we won’t be disappointed but I have a little feeling we will all be slightly disappointed. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. Here are 5 things I want to see from WWDC

5 – iPhone 4G

We obviously have seen one of the leaked prototypes, and I am really hoping that that is the one they went with because it looks great. Among many new features I’m hoping we do get the better camera on the back and front facing camera as well as lower prices for it all!

4 – New Mac Minis

Apparently as the rumor goes, these new Mac Minis will be home theater ready. I’d love to see them head this route with a special build of the Mini for home theaters. If they do, I’ll be getting one in the future!

3 – Verizon iPhone

Many of my friends want the iPhone, they are ready to pay Apple and Verizon to make that happen. The problem is Apple and Verizon and definitely AT&T aren’t ready to let that become a reality. I hope Jobs brings some good news if not today, then THIS YEAR about the iPhone spreading out to other carriers.

2 – New developer tools

Since this is the developers conference and it cost quite a bit to come to the thing I hope Apple takes real good care of their developers and gives them some great tools that makes app making even easier than before. Plus I want to hop on the train and start learning, make it easier for noobs to start coding!

1 – Sneak Peek at Mac OS X

We know Apple has to be working on 10.7, it’s shown up in many analytics of many websites. This is the best place at the moment to talk about the dang thing, so please let us know what you are working on in the next version of Mac OS X.

Sadly I think I already know that I won’t see anything about 10.7 or Verizon iPhones, but I still think we are in store for a great keynote and I’ll be watching to see what happens all week. What are you looking forward to seeing, and are you sad Apple has seemingly left out anything about 10.7?

Apple iPhone News, Reviews, Hacks, and More Copyright 2008 iPhone Nuts.

Let’s take a short stroll down memory lane, shall we? WAAYY back in 2007 when the first iPhone came out you had to buy AT&T’s 20 dollar data plan. It was unlimited, you could never run out, but it was on the EDGE network… Those were some good days. Then came along the iPhone 3G, raising our data plans from $20 to $30 but they were still unlimited. iPhone 3GS came along and nothing changed, thank heavens the price didn’t go to $40 a month. Now something to explain quickly, when AT&T says unlimited they didn’t really mean unlimited of course. It’s rumored to be that the cap for unlimited data plans is at 5GB, so do keep that in mind as we go on.

As a side note, do you notice how much we get ripped off on text message plans. I pay $30 for unlimited data which is a lot more bandwidth excessive and on our family plan we also pay $30 for unlimited texting. Texting does not take the same amount of data no matter what! AT&T STOP RIPPING US OFF WITH TEXTING. That’s all I wanted to say as a side note…:)

Now just a week before Apple introduces the next iPhone AT&T has gone and restructured some of their data plans. Don’t worry though those who want to keep their current data plans, you won’t be forced into anything new that you don’t want. Here is the low down as I understand it;

WE HAVE TETHERING NOW, but only if you sign up for one of the new plans. First of the new plans is one for 200MB of data for $15 dollars, and if you go over it’s just another $15 for 200mb more. The plan you may really want to go for though if you are a heavy iPhone user is the 2GB a month plan that is $25 a month. Although not unlimited like the current plan if you check your usage you could be saving yourself $5 or more a month. If you go over your 2Gb plan it’s $10 for another 1GB for that month.

There are more details and questions that will surface later, but overall this is a good start to AT&T catering to iPhone users needs. some people can cut their data plan in half since they don’t use that much, others can save $5, while some of us can just stay on our $30 a month unlimited plan. I only wish there were more options to these data plans. Add in the “unlimited” plan still for $30 a month, and lower the cost of 200mb from $15 to $5 and add plans in between!

Like I said though this is a slow move in the right direction for a lot of people to save money and for a lot of stress to potentially be taken off of AT&T’s network for the time being. Also did I mention that iPhone users get tethering now? Well it’s only on the new plans and it costs an extra $20 a month with no increase in data, DUMB.

Voice your opinion with a comment and let us know what you think!

Apple iPhone News, Reviews, Hacks, and More Copyright 2008 iPhone Nuts.

Many times people have dropped their iPhone, on accident that is or maybe on purpose, only to pick it up with a smashed screen. I actually know someone who took their iPhone with them on a ropes course and at the end on the way down she dropped her iPhone and it cracked. I also know an iPhone user who took their phone horseback riding and it was broken as well. I’m sure we all know these horror stories and wish we could do something to get our iPhones back in prisitin working order. Apparently coming June 6th, right before the new iPhone 4G comes out we will be able to! My first though was well would you look at that, AT&T has finally realized they could make some money off of offering a warranty for the iPhone. MILLIONS of people have the iPhone so why not create a warranty that offers more protection than the normal AppleCare?

I bet the iPhone is an expensive phone to replace but all this time AT&T has excluded the iPhone from any of it’s protection packages. Leaving all iPhone owners to deal with their broken iPhone and pay FULL price to get a new one. The day is no longer though, comprehensive coverage is now going to be available as I said with the new iPhone. I say it’s a bout time, and I also say it’s WAAYY TOO EXPENSIVE

Here are the supposed details on the plan…

Run by Asurion, the plan will cost $13.99/month and will be available through the App Store. The charges will be billed to the credit card on file with Apple. The deductibles range from $99 for an 8GB 3G to $199 for a 32GB 3GS. You must buy the plan within 30-days of upgrading/purchasing a new iPhone. This is why AT&T says their launching this service, “Lack of iPhone insurance is a leading source of iPhone related customer complaints.”

Now that is an additional $168 dollars a year, PLUS the deductible if you actually have to use it. Ouch says poor college students, especially ones who love to drop their phones. Actually OUCH says anyone who is prone to dropping their iPhone. Don’t fret though there have always been other options besides AT&T’s overpriced garbage, you knew there would be right?! A company called SquareTrade offers a great protection plan for your iPhone that is quite a bit cheaper. Check their plans out on their website, if purchased in advance you can get TWO YEARS of coverage for $144. Sounds real good to me!

All in all you need to look at both plans and figure out which one is more appropriate for you. Each plan has differences and it’s up to you to decide which one is the on you need. It’s good news AT&T finally offers protection and I’m sure a lot of people will purchase it without thinking twice. Now AT&T is making even more money from us iPhone suckers!

What do you think about protections plans for your iPhone, I’ve never had one but then again I’ve never broken an iPhone!

As we slowly inch and inch each day, getting closer to June 7th and the long awaited keynote by Steve Jobs more and more tidbits start surfacing. 3 different iPhone prototypes in testing, just incase the other 2 don’t work out. Safari may get the ability to handle plugins. And now Steve Ballmer of all people will be at WWDC during the keynote?!@#

Wait what?! That monkey goon will be presenting during Steve Job’s keynote? I mean just take a second and look at this guys mug…THIS is the guy who is in charge of all of Microsoft after Bill Gates? What a weird and horrible choice…

In all seriousness Steve Ballmer does creep me out, and automatically fill me with rage just by looking at his face. I’m not sure if it’s because he’s just an idiot or it’s something about his face… Either way, the speculation is that if he is coming to present shortly during the keynote it obviously has something to do with the iPhone. Since this WWDC is all about apps, and seemingly hardly about OS X. I’m just slightly bitter about it. The internetz are guessing that this rumor means that the Windows operating system will finally see the light of day and get the ability to somehow develop native iPhone apps. Previously this was only possible using Apple’s Xcode tools which only ran on, yup you guessed it, OS X!

So is this rumor, and the possibility of it being true good news? Does Apple really want to open up app development to all of the weird and nerdy developers on Windows? Just think if the philosophy of Windows apps made it’s way onto the iPhone…… I’m shuddering in fear. This may be a good reason and example why Apple has to approve apps before they make them in the app store. They have to feel right for the iPhone and not disrupt what us users are used to. Especially when considering UI and functionality. Any app with a horrible UI automatically puts me off, so I hope these developers step it up with their UI’s if this is true.

Honestly though I’m all for bringing the tools to more people. All joking aside from how bad the Windows UI’s are and how nerdy their developers are, we’re all nerds, it’ll be great to give the chance to ANYONE with a computer to develop for the iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, etc… I’ll be very interested and watching to see if this rumor comes to fruition. Apple’s known for their elegant solutions and I think they’ll have to deliver on this one. Microsoft’s new phones have even better competition now if there are two mobile platforms to develop for on Windows. You can even consider 3 counting android. Interesting times these are.

Thoughts, opinions, rage? Express it all below by leaving a comment. What do you think about this rumor? Thanks for reading!

Apple iPhone News, Reviews, Hacks, and More Copyright 2008 iPhone Nuts.

If you are one of the Mac faithful you know that WWDC is coming up in just about 2 weeks. WWDC stands for World Wide Developer Conference and is obviously put on by Apple for all things OS X. They usually use WWDC to launch a new iPhone on the first day, then talk about everything from Safari to Core services the rest of the week. Often they give those attending the first seed of a new version of OS X, but we’ll see what happens this year. Besides all that hoopla, there are a few things I want to see from WWDC ’10. So here they are in no particular order…

5 – Confirmed iPhone 4G

By now we’ve all seen the leaked iPhone prototype, but it’s nowhere near confirmed that this will be what is released. Although highly likely that it’s the one. It has some awesome hardware features packed into it, but I really want to know if those are going to come to fruition. What will the specs be on this new iPhone and more importantly what’s it going to cost me! I can’t wait til June 7th to get all of these details set in stone!

4 – Peek At Next OS X

More important to me than any iPhone OS is the future of Mac OS X. I’m interested in what new features and improvements will be seen as OS X makes more progress from Snow Leopard. Snow Leopard set the groundwork for a lot of cool things, now let’s see them being put in action. One of the main reasons I’m an Apple fanatic is for their computers and those run OS X. Not that the iPhone OS isn’t a variant of OS X and isn’t fantastic, let’s just not forget about the reason Apple exists in the first place!

3 – More iPhone OS 4 features

There are some many improvements going into iPhone OS 4.0, for one I think they should change the name. iTouch OS, or something like that. Since these features run on the iPod Touch, iPad and hopefully soon the AppleTV. It can’t always be called iPhone OS. Anyway, I hope to see more and more into the new OS with features we didn’t see at the special event a few months back. Not necessarily new features, although I won’t complain, just stuff that wasn’t touched on as a tentpole feature.

2 – AppleTV OS

Speaking of AppleTV, have you heard of GoogleTV? Yeah, Google just leapfrogged over your iTunes ecosystem and went more in a Boxee style approach. I use Boxee on my Mac Mini HTPC and love it. If AppleTV has any vision behind it, I hope they are cooking a great OS for the device. I also hope they bring whatever they are working on out soon too

1 – Verizon iPhone

Everyone on Verizon deep down knows they want an iPhone, so give it to them Apple! There is far too much lost revenue with Apple being stuck on AT&T. It may be a different story if AT&T performed better in the area of speed, reliability, customer service, etc… but help lighten their load Apple and let Verizon feel the strain and see how they hold up under your iPhone!

That wraps up my short list that I’d like to see from WWDC, and I don’t think it’s entirely impossible we can see all of that in a few weeks. We’ll definitely see some of it though, the iPhone is a no brainer since WWDC is all about iPhone this year. What do you think we’ll see? Leave a comment and let me know!

Apple iPhone News, Reviews, Hacks, and More Copyright 2008 iPhone Nuts.

Look out, here comes another rumor about the iPhone 4G! I know I am very ready for this device. The rumors and tidbits that keep surfacing are driving me crazy. In about 3 weeks though we’ll know what is really going to happen, so we can all rush out and buy it! I came here to fill you in the newest bit of rumors, so let’s get right to it.

After you read the title I know most everyone will want to say, well duh…but here is the thing. When I say it will come in white, that doesn’t mean that just the back will be white. That also means the front panel will be white. At least according to these parts that have shown up on the internet we’ll be seeing an ALL white iPhone. Not just the back of the phone…

There it is, soak it in for a second before you make up your mind. It looks pretty darn good doesn’t it? Right now I have a white 3G S, but it’s covered in a black Incase case. It looks really good. Which btw I’m excited to see what Incase makes for this iPhone prototype! I like the white, but do I like it more than just black on this phone? I can’t tell yet. In my mind I’ll probably go back to black this time around and pick up any colored case I want to add some flare in, but now that Apple is coloring the WHOLE phone it adds a WHOLE new look to the device. Here’s another picture of a rendering.

Like I said, I think it looks pretty dang sexy but perhaps isn’t for me this time around. So let your opinion be known and leave us a comment. Do you like the idea that now Apple will have the whole phone colored instead of just the back? Does it add to the cool factor or make the white seem too girly? Secretly, that was my one complaint when I thought about buying a white iPhone. Is this too girly? Hah, silly me.

So write in your name and email and leave a comment. I’ll be waiting all weekend to hear what you think! Thanks for reading.

Apple iPhone News, Reviews, Hacks, and More Copyright 2008 iPhone Nuts.

We all know how tight lipped Apple is about their upcoming products. This is nothing new for people who have been following Apple and their rumors for awhile. It’s very curious to try and get a peek inside to peer at the inner workings of how Apple works. Let’s take the iPhone for example, it was in development for two years. At least according to Steve Jobs. People on the outside had little hints that it was coming. The domain iPhone was registered to Apple, and it only made sense that Apple would come a long and save the cellphone from the cell carriers. People working on the iPhone outside of Apple didn’t dare risk the rath of Steve Jobs for letting the cat out of the bag about this product. It was going to bring millions or billions of dollars for their company if the product is successful, and more often than not Apple is successful.

Inside Apple labs the teams were kept separate who were working on the iPhone. Just no neither team knew what the other was working on. The software team had no idea what the iPhone actually looked like and the hardware team probably had no idea what the software looked like on the iPhone. When developing the software it’s said they had a complete iPhone running inside a wooden box, just so they couldn’t leak info on what the iPhone looked like. It was apparently pretty close to this when they were working on the iPad as well.

It’s evident Apple likes to be in control of EVERYTHING. They are on the path to making everything for their computers, the hardware, software, and now even the processors. While it can seem crazy for one company to control everything so tightly, it’s this level of control that make their products work as they should. Something I definitely appreciate to a certain degree. Their computers work so smoothly and are reliable because they have a limited amount of hardware they work on and it’s very optimized to work together with only those certain sets. This level of control, of course, transfers over to their mobile devices like the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, etc… They even have a say now onto what you can install on these devices. They’ve done a pretty decent job at quality control, but some people are growing tired of it.

Still on the topic of control let’s look at how Apple loves to control the hype and marketing of their devices, especially in context of this latest iPhone prototype leak. It’ll be interesting to see the iPhone sales and how they were effected now that everybody knows about the new iPhone and will be waiting for it. It’s not a terrible thing to lose sales to another one of your devices in the big picture though. People are going to get the latest and greatest iPhone now instead of the old one. We’ll see though.

Apple wants to keep everything under wraps until it’s time for them to be hyped and marketed on their own time. Apple wants to be the ones showing off the new iPhone and all the new features they worked so hard to create and implement, and that’s why such a big product leak was such a big deal. In the end though it’s just got me very excited about the new iPhone since I’m already a 3GS owner.

With the second leak of a iPhone 4G prototype and other prototype leaks starting to happen more often, does this mean Apple’s shroud of secrecy has started to fall? Or has Steve Jobs just stopped caring? Nah, that’s not likely at all. Apparently someone inside of Apple has some loose lips and prototypes are falling out left and right. If we all know the Apple we are familiar with they’ll soon methodically weed out the people and or problems that have lead to these leaks. They’ll probably even be tighter to crack before.

I love Apple’s secrecy, it’s what makes half of their products exciting to follow. What do you think about the control and secrecy of Apple?

This is an exciting time of the summer, school is out for me and many others. Nice spring weather is here, and the next iPhone is so close I can almost feel it. The rumor mills are churning more and more out every day about the next gen iPhone. Of course nothing fuels the flames of the mills more than the iPhone coming to Verizon. Remember when the first iPhone was about to come out and Verizon turned it down due to Apple’s demands. Now they are begging for another chance to have it. Plus Apple may be getting tired of dealing with only AT&T and their problems.

So what will it mean to the U.S. market if the iPhone came to Verizon. It’ll be a big deal. For one introducing some plan and feature competition will never hurt any of us, no matter the network. The pricing wars will then begin, and I definitely welcome that. Cheaper data plans, cheaper texting, etc… This also opens up the door for Apple to sell a lot more iPhones. It’ll be an interesting time to see what happens. I’m sure millions of people have been dying for this, I know of at least one person who is just waiting for the iPhone *cough* John Tibbs *cough*. He’ll either be switching to AT&T soon in the next two years or grabbing the Verizon iPhone. I’m sure many more of my friends would love to pick up the iPhone as well once it’s on Verizon.

There could be a downside to the iPhone being available on Verizon as well. Remember how Verizon used to be pretty good at clamping down their phones. No bluetooth capabilities, no this and that, etc… They really locked down their phones to buying stuff only from Verizon. I’m worried that if the iPhone comes over to Verizon that things like bluetooth and the new video chatting capabilities will be limited. Although I don’t think Apple would let this happen, they are selling the iPhone in China without Wifi enabled. Although they are making headway slowly on that. Apple is very controlling over the experience you have with their devices and I appreciate that for the average consumer, I just don’t hope Verizon is any worse than Apple. Two big companies locking down their product wouldn’t turn out very well. I also wonder if the Verizon network will see performance degradation from the flock of people using the iPhone on their network now? Would it be AT&T all over again? I’d love to see that just so they get a taste of their own medicine.

Will the iPhone ever come to Verizon or any other carrier in the U.S.? I hope so, it has to. In every other country besides the U.S. the iPhone is on multiple carriers creating more competition and more choices. This is where the iPhone is stagnant at in the U.S. I have loved my experience on the iPhone with AT&T, and hopefully this just pushes AT&T to work faster and harder to keep a competitive EDGE over Verizon.

Apple iPhone News, Reviews, Hacks, and More Copyright 2008 iPhone Nuts.
