The Best IM iPhone Apps Ever!

September 11, 2008 by Ryan Ray

We’ve all been clamoring for some form of IM on our iPhones. If you didn’t know, IM stands for Instant Messaging. Many services offer their own “unique” version of IM, but none have rivaled AIM’s popularity. In fact I used to have accounts everywhere, even on MSN! Now I am exclusive to AIM, it’s the easiest to use and most widely available. I know this may be the only 3 IM applications for the iPhone out there, but each one does it’s task very well. Doing so it makes it hard to choose one to stick to. I hate having three IM apps on my iPhone, it’s the same thing for me with Twitter. I found my favorite and stuck to it. So now I’m out to try and find my favorite IM application. Here’s number one!

AIM

The actual AIM app for the iPhone has been my favorite so far. Granted I am so familiar with how AIM works that it was a natural extension of my desktop AIM. Well, sort of… The iPhone’s SMS features look more like iChat than AIM does. Perhaps someone at AIM should get on that redesign of their interface. Anyway AIM does just was AIM does, it allows people to communicate through IM’s. There really are no “bells & whistles” attached to this app. It does IM just like I expect it to which in turn makes it my favorite!

Palringo

Palringo is a fun AIM and more app. It’s boasted extra features are faster and smaller app, plus the ability to not only send IM’s but also pictures and voice messages. A very cool thing that I want to try out, as soon as that push ability comes! Apple said September so I’m expecting it soon. This is also a great application for people who use other services as well as AIM. Palringo supports Google Talk, Yahoo, Gadu Gadu, ICQ, Jabber, and MSN. Well they call it Windows Live Messenger these days but it’s the same thing. I don’t try and bog myself down with all of these dumb IM accounts so I only use AIM, but if you use more than one Palringo might be the one for you. Besides these main points Palringo does quiet a bit more so check it out.

IM + All-In-One Messenger

This IM app is the new kid on the block. It’s main bragging feature is the ability to connect to more than on IM and keep them organized. The same thing that Palringo does. IM + connects to all of the services Palringo connects to as well. Besides AIM, it get’s Google Talk, Yahoo, Gadu Gadu, ICQ, Jabber, MSN, AND Myspace IM. If you are a big fan of Myspace IM then this is the one for you. If you truly are a fan of Myspace IM then you also need some help…JUST KIDDING! That’s just my personal opinion, haha. IM+ has some room to grow, but it could be a big player in the coming weeks.

So those are my three IM apps that I would use, and do on my iPhone. Personally I don’t keep IM + on my phone anymore, but I can’t decide which is the next one to get rid of… AIM or Palringo? I need my push services to really decide, so c’mon Apple! It’s now your turn to decide which is the best. Leave your opinion in the comments and help me decide which one is the best! Thanks!
