All Recipes & The iPhone Replace Your Cookbooks
June 12, 2009 by Ryan Ray
Let’s focus on something else besides the lame iPhone 3Gs for a second. Hah, only kidding the iPhone 3Gs is great of course because it’s an iPhone and Apple made it. Quick poll first…How many of you are planning on getting the iPhone 3Gs? I still can’t decide if it’s worth an update, obviously because I have to spend $400 to get the iPhone 3Gs. We’ll just see how much my iPhone 3G will sell for. If worse comes to worse I’ll get the new version next year! While everyone else cries about not being able to upgrade from the iPhone 3Gs.
Anyway, something that I have been doing a lot of lately is cooking. Not because I’m trying to become a great cook, I am anything but a great cook. It’s mainly because of the lack of quick ready food I’m trying to keep around this summer. I’ve had snack like THIS one, and then made sandwiches like THIS one. Which are quick but still great tasting and healthy. One of the apps I recently downloaded is called All Recipes, and as obvious as it is the app stays true to it’s name. It’s not a old boring cookbook app though, no it’s far from it. All Recipes is an incredible good looking and smooth performing app, and on top of all that it’s great fun to use. Below is a shot of what the main screen looks like. Orange and beautiful! I don’t know if orange is one of the colors that makes you hungry but these shades of orange sure are tantalizing. You can scroll horizontally through the three spinners. From the dish type, to the ingredients, to the time it takes to prepare it. Take it even one step further to a sort of food roulette if you aren’t sure what you are in the mood for. Simply tap the spin categories button at the bottom and prepare for something new and delicious. Something I’ve yet to try, but since I suggested it I’ll do it. Just for you.

The next screenshot is an example of the three spinners selected. I’ve chosen a bread type dish, with the ingredients of cheese, and it better be ready in 20 minutes or less. It’s as simple as that to choose something to cook. If it got any harder I wouldn’t deem this app iPhone worthy. Can you guess what it’ first suggestion was for these selections? Yup, Garlic Cheese Biscuits, haha.

Here you can see my Garlic Cheese Biscuits that it suggest I make. From the top of the screen you can see buttons to go back to the spinner, then the heart button will add the recipe to your favorites to save for a future cook out. Below that you’ll see the dish type and ingredients in small icon form. Also in that area is how many matches matched my criteria, there are 14 matches for a bread dish with cheese. Impressive eh? I could barely think of one…

A very cool part of the app is the featured section. Here you can check out the favorite apps that are worthy of being featured, simply check out the featured section to get some great recipes on what everyone else is loving and eating up. Apparently you can submit your own recipes on the actual allrecipes.com website. If you think you have a recipe worthy then do submit it, you never know it may end up on the feature section. Then you can see what people really think about it. It’s like a social recipe site! Imagine that.

Well that covers it. The All Recipes app is free, and I love it. It’s definitely worth a download and a try. Don’t blame the app and especially don’t blame me if you start packing on some extra pounds. I never said that you could quit using RUN KEEPER to stay in shape. Let me know what you think about this app, would you give it a shot or stick to your old cookbook? As always thank you for reading.
