How Do You Like Your iPhone Folders?

October 18, 2010 by Ryan Ray · Leave a Comment

I’ve talked about folders on the iPhone a few times on this site. We all know how lovely they are to use. I rely on them almost exclusively on my iPhone. I keep some junk apps on the home screen. Apps like text, to do’s, calendar, etc… EVERYthing else goes into a folder and organized away. I can’t wait to get folders on the iPad. Definitely missing iOS 4 on it right now. Anyway let me show you my approach to folders on my iPhone, and see what you think about my thought process behind it.

Magic Trackpad or iPhone?

October 14, 2010 by Ryan Ray · Leave a Comment

By now most of the tech world knows of the Magic Trackpad. It was rumored to come out about 4 days before it actually did. It was launched with minimal fanfare and it really didn’t make a big splash. But if you examine it you might find some worth from it. At this point I am very intrigued by the device, I wish I knew a friend who has bought one. I’d just borrow it for a week and see how it works as a mouse right next to my keyboard. In my daily computing life I do a lot of typing, and often am either editing video, audio, or digging around in code for websites. The mouse is an important tool obviously with a lot of the way I interact with the interfaces in the apps I use. I do like the Magic Mouse a lot but I’m also interested in an enlarged trackpad. So what does this have to do with the iPhone?

My First iPhone Video

October 13, 2010 by Ryan Ray · Leave a Comment

It’s no secret to most that the iPhone 4 shoots HD video in 720. This doesn’t mean that the iPhone shoots video comparable to any professional HD camera. That should be a given. Just think, how could Apple squeeze in the optics and sensor, not to mention lenses, required to get something at least like a 7D into their iPhone. JUST CAN’T…YET hah. I say that in contrast though because it’s still a fun video camera to use, also super EASY to use.

Foodspotting

If there are two things out there a lot of us can agree upon, it’s great pictures and food! Definitely at least the food part right? Well there is definitely one thing I notice among smart phone users, and that is they love to share pictures of the food they are about to ingest. Count me in on that category, I don’t know what it is but it seems like a cool thing to share. No matter if it’s on Facebook, Twitter, or what have you, there is food everywhere. What does this have to do with the iPhone? Well, read on to see this new app and social service combining food and pictures.

Starbucks On The iPhone

October 8, 2010 by Ryan Ray · 1 Comment

We’ve talked about Starbucks a little bit before, you can read a full on app review over here. But going a long with our series of apps you can order from this app takes a little different turn. Sadly you can’t order from the Starbucks app, but that’s why I wanted to bring it to everyone’s attention. I think you should be able to place a drink order and be able to stop by and pick it up without waiting. The current app allows you to get pretty close to that. You can build a custom drink, or order a familiar, old standby. You can check out different roasts, find store, check out food, even look for jobs! Sadly like said, no way to order and get your stuff at your local Starbucks. If you are out there Starbucks listen up and implement this somehow.

Pizza Hut App

Here we are again continuing with our short series of shopping apps. I’m trying to feature ones that let you order from your iPhone since it’s somewhat of a shift in the way we use our smart phones. No more hassle of communication errors when ordering, or waiting in line. Order by tapping and pick it up on your way by. The ultimate convenience!

Since I’m a college student, and we college students apparently worship Pizza I thought we’d talk about the Pizza Hut app right now. This app has one functionality and that is to get you to order Pizza Hut no matter where you are. So let’s take a look at how you do that.

For this week I’m going to try and blog about 5 apps that change the way you order items with the iPhone. Any app that makes it seem novel to use the iPhone to order them. Wether that be food, drinks, clothing, etc… I will try and highlight what they offer through the iPhone and what is unique about each. So let’s get started!

So follow along if you want to read a get a more in depth look at what I think about folders.

Payments On The iPhone With Square

October 2, 2010 by Ryan Ray · Leave a Comment

I must be on the kick of talking about money apps because here comes another one from my genius brain. There has been a lot of hype built up around this company called Square who had developed a system to take credit card payments via the iPhone and iPad. I’m sure ,if they aren’t already, they’ll be making their way to all Droid devices too. Before you go on check out this video about Square.

So now that you’ve seen just how they want you to use it, let’s take a quick little walk through so you can see what the app looks like.
