Own the ‘Phone’ in iPhone 3G

July 24, 2008 by Derek Walter · Leave a Comment

You walk out of an Apple or AT&T store with your brand new iPhone 3G. So of course you want to call your buddies and share your good fortune with them.  But if you’re an iPhone newbie, this isn’t as easy as it sounds. For all the cool apps the iPhone provides, it’s easy to forget that it’s also a phone. The unusual phone interface might be intimidating if you have never used it or any smart phone before.

But fear not. Soon enough you will be loading up your contact list, checking your voicemail; even doing it all with a Bluetooth device. While it’s different, Apple’s predictability for user-friendly design shines here. You will find five icons with labels.

iPhone 3G GPS Better Than TomTom?

July 24, 2008 by Ryan Ray · Leave a Comment

When it was announced at WWDC that the iPhone 3G was coming with GPS built in, the world rejoiced! I had always wanted GPS, but never wanted to get a stand alone unit. I had dreamed of the iPhone getting GPS since it’s birth over a year ago. I didn’t want to have to get one of those clunky GPS units that stick to your window. For one it is ugly, IMHO. You’ve got it obstructing part of your view and wires dangle from it everywhere. I wanted a more elegant solution, and besides that I wanted to have everything in one device. I had my point and shoot camera, I had an iPod, I had my phone, and that all became one with the iPhone. They had just left out the GPS part until now in the 3G version.

Landing the elusive iPhone 3G

So you want an iPhone 3G. The problem is, so do thousands of others who have yet to land one. How to get yours? I offer some tips from my recent successful (though long and frustrating) journey.

First, decide how badly you want a particular model. The 8GB black and 16GB white models have been available daily at most Apple stores. But if you want the black 16GB iPhone, then you are going to have some serious competition. This one has been harder to find both at Apple stores and through AT&T. Depending on how diligent you want to be in this quest, you have two ways to go.

iPhone 3G Sucks! – A Nut’s First Impression

The iPhone 3G
It’s been just over a week since the iPhone 3G launch, the world has started to settle down. Well sort of, the iPhone 3G is still out of stock for both consumers and business customers, new apps are being published every day, and the iPwnage tool is out and being used. So let me tell you about my initial impressions of the iPhone 3G. I had previously owned the original iPhone not long after the day they came out, so I am basing this off of my previous experience. Let’s get started shall we?

The iPhone 3G; For Better & For Worse.

July 21, 2008 by Ryan Ray · 2 Comments

Hello there, my name is Ryan…

Before I say anything else I must confess, it’s true I am indeed an iPhone Nut. I know a lot of you out there are too, it’s just that I’m the first to admit it. It’s a problem, a condition, rapidly sweeping the nation as we speak. Doctor’s don’t even know what to do with people like us yet. My doctor hasn’t even heard of the iPhone. People are still lined up, salivating for the iPhone 3G. Lucky me, I was the first out of the store with my iPhone 3G. They were having activation issues so they let me go problem free. I ran to my car looking behind me every step of the way just to make sure the wild crowd of people weren’t chasing me down to get a glimpse at my iPhone. Once safely locked inside my own car did I finally breathe a sigh of relief. I sped out of there as I still had a 45 minute drive home, who know’s what could happen between the AT&T store and my new iPhone’s home.

I pulled up to my house and checked my surroundings. Nobody was insight, I’m guessing because it was barely 9:00 a.m. People were already at work or still in line for the iPhone 3G. It didn’t help that AT&T gives you a horribly bright orange and blue bag to carry your iPhone in. It screams “Come mug me, I’ve got a free iPhone 3G in here for you.” I scrambled out of the car and into my house, I was so excited as I fumbled around with the USB cord and my new, shiny, wonderful iPhone 3G. I plug it in and calm my nerves only to be served with this…
